REVIEW: THE BOONDOCKS
Season 3
11/07/10
SYNOPSIS: The complete raw, uncut, and uncensored 3rd season of adultswim’s top-rated comedy hit series is now here in this DVD set packed with special extras. Laugh yourself silly at the hilarious and unpredictable antics of everyone’s favorite bad boys - Huey, Riley, and Robert (Granddad) Freeman. This 3-disc set contains all of Aaron McGruder’s outrageous Boondocks crew, a slew of irreverent bonus features and the special vocal talents of Bill Maher, Billy Dee Williams and Charlie Murphy.
SEASON REVIEW: After almost two years and a half of waiting, Woodcrest favorite family is back, but unlike previous seasons, the show seemed more reserved on their targets. If I have to think this season only makes fun of Obama, Peewee Trahan, and Taylor Perry; of course they also mentioned and make fun of important incidents that affected America and the world, like the flu pandemic, the typhoon in Indonesia, our debt with china, and the social network phenomenon: Face book and Twitter. I would think that after such a long waiting the Boondocks would have come back stronger than previous seasons in the criticism, and satire department. Do not get me wrong, each episode would make you laugh none stop with its witty remarks however I believed it felt short in what have make this show, one of my all times favorites. The Boondocks will be available November 9 2010.
In this season, unlike the previous ones there is little if none innovation, in the sense that there are none new characters, instead it seemed that the writer decided to revisit old episodes and extended like Stinkmeaner 3: The Hateocracy, and a A Date with the Booty Warrior which are based on episodes from previous seasons. This was on my opinion kind of nice that they give continuity to the series by linking previous episodes with modern ones, but really the Stinkmeanor saga is becoming boring. This little innovation is not necessary a bad thing, because the chemistry that made this show funny and addicted is preserved, like the interaction between the Freeman family, their different personalities and ways to see the world, and of course the racist remarks that only the Boondocks get away with, taking the viewer by surprise, and stealing some laughs.
Technical and visual speaking this season is as good as the previous ones. The animations are fluid and colorful, the action scenes are better, and the voice actors have not lost their touch.
Season 3 is not by any means better or equal to season two or season one, however is a pretty decent season, it is recommended to fans of the series, who are used to the type of humor the Boondocks bring, and like the previous season this one also has plenty explicit language. Let me emphasize that this is not the kind of cartoon you watch with your little kids. Now do I considered this a worth having DVD? Well as a hard core fan of the series I would say absolutely, the DVD meets is porpoise, and every series is entitle to a mediocre season. Let us hope that for next season Mr. McGruder put more thought to political and social criticism other than racist remarks. My top three episodes from this season: 1. it’s a Black President, Huey Freeman. 2. The Red Ball. 3. The Fried Chicken Flu.
