FiGa Films Acquires Worldwide Rights to Explosive Ibero-American Drama The Porcelain Horse

Los Angeles, CA-based FiGa Films today announced the acquisition of worldwide sales rights to Javier Andrade’s debut feature, The Porcelain Horse, at the Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), produced and presented by Miami Dade College, where the film is world premiering.

The drama, from Ecuadorian-based production company Punk S.A., involves two brothers who steal a porcelain horse from their parents’ home in order to buy drugs, leading to a fight that will haunt the family for the rest of their lives. The film is playing as part of MIFF’s Knight Ibero-American Competition, where $45,000 in prize money is up for grabs.

The deal was announced via MIFF’s Industry Office by FiGa Films principal Alex Garcia and Punk S.A.’s Maria Angeles Palacios.

“Young Latin filmmakers, like Andrade, are dictating what is new and hot. We’re excited to add this progressive tale about family, love and punk rock to our catalogue of titles,” said Alex Garcia, FiGa Films. “Since our inception in 2007, MIFF has consistently been an important showcase to launch our films. We are thrilled to also have the International premiere of Rodrigo Marin’s Zoologico and the east coast premieres of established Portuguese director Joao Canijo’s Blood of My Blood (Sangue do Meu Sangue) and Mexican auteur Matias Meyer’s The Last Christeros (Los ultimos Cristeros).”

The Porcelain Horse’s world premiere is scheduled for tomorrow night, Sunday March 4th. Director Andrade and one of the stars of the film, Leovanna Orlandini, are in Miami for the premiere. It’s one of two films that Andrade is world premiering at MIFF, the other being the documentary La Casa Del Ritmo, A Film About Los Amigos Invisibles, scheduled to debut on Tuesday March 6th. Several members of the legendary Venezuelan funk/pop band Los Amigos Invisibles are scheduled to attend in person.
“Miami International Film Festival is proud to be premiering this wonderful film, a glorious example of the strength of filmmaking from Latin America,” said MIFF executive director Jaie Laplante. “The fact that that the Festival has programmed two of Andrade’s world premieres is a testament to his talent.”
