FRONTERA – Trailer

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014

Here is the trailer from the upcoming film “FRONTERA”. The film is directed by Michael Berry, starring Ed Harris, Michael Pena, Eva Longoria, Amy Madigan and Aden Young.

Magnolia Pictures will release FRONTERA on iTunes/OnDemand July 31, 2014 and in theaters September 5, 2014.

Set in the tumultuous Border area of Arizona and Mexico, Frontera follows the events that take place after a former Arizona Sheriff’s wife (Amy Madigan) is killed while riding on their Ranch property. It would appear a Mexican man (Michael Pena) crossing in to the US illegally is at fault. As former Sheriff (Ed Harris) and current Sheriff (Aden Young) search for answers, lives are changed forever and the facts as to who is really at fault in this tragedy are nearly as tenuous and complex as the issues and tensions between the people who live in this region on either side of the line.

Frontera Movie Still

The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures announced today that they have acquired US and Canadian rights to FRONTERA, starring Ed Harris (Snowpiercer, Pain & Gain, Phantom, Pollock, Apollo 13), Eva Longoria (“Desperate Housewives,” The Heartbreak Kid, The Sentinel), Michael Peña (American Hustle, End of Watch, The Lincoln Lawyer), Aden Young (Killer Elite) and Amy Madigan (Gone Baby Gone, Field of Dreams). The film was directed by Michael Berry, from a script he co-wrote with Luis Moulinet III, and produced by Ocean Blue Entertainment and executive producer Eric Austin Williams.

In the vein of Traffic and Babel, FRONTERA is set in the dangerous area between the United States and Mexico. After crossing the border illegally for work, Miguel (Michael Pena), a hard-working father and devoted husband, finds himself wrongfully accused of murdering a former sheriff’s (Ed Harris) wife. After learning of his imprisonment, Miguel’s pregnant wife (Eva Longoria) tries to come to his aid and lands in the hands of corrupt coyotes who hold her for ransom. Dissatisfied with the police department’s investigation, the former sheriff tries to uncover the truth about his wife’s death and discovers disturbing evidence that will destroy one family’s future, or tear another’s apart.

“FRONTERA is an exciting and relevant drama with a typically stellar performance from Ed Harris and great turns from the entire ensemble,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles.

Negotiations for FRONTERA were concluded at the Baja International Film Festival in Los Cabos, Mexico, a first for a major American motion picture. Daniel Dreifuss (BIFF’s US industry liaison) believes that “placing the industry in such a special setting allows for a unique experience conducive to business. New professional relationships were formed as evidenced by the deals announced and forthcoming partnerships which we hope consolidate BIFF as a viable and needed market.”

Said Alonso Aguilar Castillo, President of the Los Cabos Arts and Culture association: “Through the announcement of the various US deals that finally crystalized at our second edition, Baja International Film Festival Los Cabos confirms its commitment to work towards becoming the most useful and relevant industry platform where Mexico, US and Canada can meet and collaborate.”

The deal was negotiated by Magnolia Director of Acquisitions John Von Thaden with CAA for the filmmakers. Myriad Pictures is handling international sales. Magnolia will release FRONTERA theatrically in 2014.

Here is the trailer from WWE Studios and Samuel Goldwyn Films upcoming film That’s What I Am, opening in select theaters on April 29th, 2011. That’s What I Am is directed by Michael Pavone and stars Ed Harris, Chase Ellison, Randy Orton, Alexander Walters and Amy Madigan.

Set in California against the backdrop of the mid-sixties, That’s What I Am is a coming-of-age story that follows 12-year-old Andy Nichol (Chase Ellison), a bright student who, like most kids his age, will do anything to avoid conflict for fear of suffering overwhelming ridicule and punishment from his junior high school peers.

Everyone’s favorite teacher, Mr. Simon (Ed Harris), pairs Andy with the school’s biggest outcast and social pariah, Stanley aka “Big G” (Alexander Walters), on a critical school project. Sporting thick orange hair, a head too big for his body and ears too big for his head, “Big G” has been the object of ridicule since grade school. Before long, Andy will learn that there was truly a method behind Mr. Simon’s madness as to why he teamed these two up.

After a dramatic incident in the schoolyard, teachers and parents rethink their roles in school and society. Principal Kelner (Amy Madigan) suspends a school bully for brutally beating up a female classmate. The vindictive father of the bully makes Mr. Simon the target of a malicious rumor about his sexuality, causing Mr. Simon to question his calling as an educator and mentor to his students.

When Andy watches “Big G” fearlessly confront the school bully about the incident, a series of events are triggered. Much to Andy’s surprise, he learns that “Big G” is a brilliant, kind, tolerant human being, who as more dignity than anyone Andy has ever encountered.
