Fed up with his humdrum, isolated life in New York City, 34 year old Alex (TATE ELLINGTON) responds to an unusual group email invitation from an acquaintance (DREE HEMINGWAY) to house-sit at a picturesque cottage in the Hamptons for the weekend. Following his GPS, he drives to the isolated part of Long Island, but discovers his cellphone charger is broken and that he’s completely cut off from the internet. A chance meeting with a woman on the beach (TARA SUMMERS) sets off a chain of events where he finds himself stranded with a dead car and dead phone. In his effort to fix his car and get back to the cottage, he ends up lost on a musical, dream-like “Alex in Wonderland” adventure, caught in a series of awkward and surreal situations with a colorful cast of characters. Without his phone to protect him and forced to interact with these people face to face, Alex rediscovers the magic of human connection, and ultimately discovers that the vibrant, musical world he’s wished for his whole life is there all around him, if he listens.

What happens when you lose the foundation of your family? Mother Suzanne (Andie MacDowell) tentatively seeks companionship—but her attempts at dating only drive a wedge between her and older son Nicholas (Chris O’Dowd), whose own relationship with his girlfriend is disintegrating. Meanwhile, younger son Chris (James Adomian) deals with grief in his own complicated—and increasingly worrying—way. What plays out between the trio is a beautifully observed, powerfully emotional journey that speaks to the strength of family ties.

Here is the new trailer from Music Box Films’ upcoming film STARLET. The movie is directed by Sean Baker, starring Dree Hemingway, Besedka Johnson, Stella Maeve, James Ransone.

Music Box Films will release “Starlet” in New York and Los Angeles on November 9th, with a national rollout to follow.

Starlet explores the unlikely friendship between 21-year-old Jane (Dree Hemingway), and 85-year-old Sadie (Besedka Johnson), two women whose worlds collide in California’s San Fernando Valley. Jane spends her time getting high with her dysfunctional roommates, Melissa and Mikey, while taking care of her Chihuahua, Starlet. Sadie, an elderly widow, passes her days alone, tending to her flower garden.

After a confrontation between the two women at Sadie’s yard sale, Jane uncovers a hidden stash of money inside a relic from Sadie’s past. Jane attempts to befriend the caustic older woman in an effort to solve her dilemma and secrets emerge as their relationship grows.

Starlet is Sean Baker’s follow-up to the acclaimed Prince of Broadway, winner of the Best Narrative Feature at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
