SYNOPSIS: Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

REVIEW: The plot of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice conveys the idea that Metropolis has been terrorized by a fellow superhero and Batman believes Superman is responsible. However, this is such a ridiculous and unflattering premise that it stands to reason why the writers, directors and producers failed to meet the expectations of a blockbuster superhero movie. It’s an understatement to say that the plot is full of holes and gives new meaning to “disjointed.” The soundtrack, according to online sources, is by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL, but unfortunately it is appalling and feels like a direct assault on one’s ears. And as if Hollywood didn’t learn from casting Ben Affleck as Daredevil, they’ve seemingly given him another chance to prove his superhero-bravado, where he totally mucks this one up with the most unforgivable shambolic acting imaginable.

As for the rest of the casting, I think Amy Adams is an excellent choice as Lois Lane, in terms of her beauty and acting (which is flawless, I might add). She’s a real nice refreshing sight to behold and she doesn’t miss a beat. Jeremy Irons as Alfred is ok, but certainly causes one to miss Sir Michael Caine who is now 83 (according to Wikipedia.org). Caine would have added a much needed gravitas to this poor excuse for a superhero action flick. While Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luther is totally inappropriate because he lacks a menacing quality and instead adds a quirkiness which could be considered interesting if he was playing the ‘Riddler!’ I would submit that quirkiness is not a character trait of Lex Luther, but ruthlessness is. The ability to terrorize seems to be more of a Lex Luther thing, but not quirkiness. My guess is there must have been some clever, powerful agent-negotiations, here, to give such a pivotal role to Eisenberg. Just the mere idea of giving him this role, gives us no reason to fear this movie’s Lex Luther, it’s just easier to see him as a jokester. Some may remember that setting the bar for this character is Gene Hackman, now 86 (according to Wikipedia.org) who has made Lex Luther a monster, to be feared. If the excuse is that Hackman has retired, then certainly there are more skilled and appropriate actors who could have played a ruthless Lex Luther.

Overall, the opening sequences of this flick was dreadful, Ben Affleck was the least bit convincing as Batman and totally destroyed the role, the movie was annoyingly long, only because it was not interesting, the soundtrack did not do the film justice and the story-telling was all over the place and difficult to follow (which shouldn’t be the case for a comic book series).

One good component to this latest effort is that we get to see portrayals of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg in action. So this is a nice step in the right direction instead of only glimpsing them in animated series on TV. Nevertheless, give yourself a break. Save your money because this $250 million dollar Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice is certainly not worth the movie-going experience and would probably be best viewed at home for those die-hard DC comic book fans. Two and a half stars out of five would be the best I can do for this horrible flick.
