MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT

7/26/2018

SYNOPSIS: The best intentions often come back to haunt you. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm.
REVIEW:
Solomon Lane: "Your mission, should you *choose* to accept it." I wonder, did you ever choose not to? The end you've always feared is coming. And the blood will be on your hands. The fallout of all your good intentions.
I’m sorry, I’m so, so sorry, but for those of you that are not Mission Impossible (MI) fans, I just don’t understand you. I for one can’t get enough of the Tom Cruise MI films. Just when you think there’s no way he can top that, he and the film does. For all practical purposes, we can pretty much state that Tom and the MI film are one. If you are an adrenaline junkie, an action junkie, a stunt junkie, a Tom Cruise junkie, a spy flick junkie, or if at a minimum you enjoy eye candy of the action variety, boy are you in for a treat. Yes, here we go again, yes here’s another MI movie, yes here’s Tom Cruise again doing his thing, yes there’s been way too many MI movies, but damn it if they are not totally entertaining and fun to watch. I repeat, just when you thought you had seen it all with these MI films, BOOM, you get blown away time and time again. It would be easy to say that this is the best one yet, but that might be because it is the freshest one in my mind. Let’s leave it at the fact that it is definitely at least as good as any other. To say it is action packed might be an understatement. To say that there were a few moments during the film that I couldn’t breathe is not. The movie is oozing intrigue and suspense. It is an intense, edge of your seat adventure that will leave you exhausted but satisfied. The movie lives up to all the hype, which is not a very common occurrence. In short, it delivers. It is amazing in so many ways. The action sequences can rival those from any other film. The stunts will excite you to the point of cringing and squirming in your seat. The filming locations will thrill you, food for the eyes. Priscilla will definitely and thoroughly enjoy that aspect. The cinematography is one of the key components to making all these aspects of the film so amazing. And even the music will inspire you and totally set the tone. The storyline is as intense as the action and it will definitely keep you on your toes. I believe for the first time we actually get somewhat of a sequel due to its ties to Rogue Nation. This is all really exciting stuff.
Ilsa Faust: What the hell is he doing?
Benji Dunn: I find it best not to look!
And then there's Tom. What a beast! I mean what can you possible say about the man at this point. Sure, some people don't like him very much personally, but that aside, on the big screen, he is one of a kind. He has led the way in making a 60s & 70s hit TV show into a theatrical action powerhouse. Now he's not alone in this venture; he has always been surrounded by a strong cast. All of our usual players that we have become attached to are all here, except, quite sadly, no Jeremy Renner this time. I really enjoyed his presence on the team. This time however, we do have the presence of Superman, eh sorry Henry, Henry Cavill and what a presence he is. I also need to give an honorable mention to Sean Harris as Solomon Lane. What a performance, again (he was fantastic in Rogue Nation), and what a voice. His peculiar and eerie voice adds so much to his chilling character and performance . . . what a villain.
August Walker: How many times has Hunt's government betrayed him, disavowed him, cast him aside? How long before a man like that has had enough?
Writer and Director Christopher McQuarrie is also back at it again after having done Rogue Nation, a masterpiece. You could say he out did himself with this one, if you can believe that. Among everything else, it is also evident by the thunderous applause from the audience at the end of the screening. Your mission should you choose to accept it; go see this movie.
