MOVIE REVIEW: 10000 B.C.

Do not let the saber tooth tiger and stubbly mammoths in the trailer fool you, director Roland Emmerich had about 12.000 years of history to write a compelling and fascinating story, instead he decided to show the audience an over shown love story. I went with the intention to see a great movie of the caliber of Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto or Ridley Scott’s Gladiator instead you get a human version of any Disney movie. The movie will managed to entertain you for a good couple of minutes and visually is mesmerizing, but it will not satisfy you completely.

D’leh is the son of a mammoth hunter, living in the top of the mountains, his people lives of the hunt in a peaceful village. One day when D’leh was a young little boy, a girl is brought to the campground from another village who has been destroyed by four legged daemons. Old Mother, the tribes’ prophet, foresee the same faith for her tribe, she predicts that when these daemons come, a hero will raise their tribe will change forever, and he will be with the little girl as companions. D’leh’s father when he hears this decides to leave to search a better way and leaves D’leh to his best friend TicTic. D’leh is treated as the son of a deserter, but finds comfort in the Little girl’s friendship and love. Years passed, and D’leh has become a hunter competing for the white spear, which is given to the top of hunter, along with the hand of Evolet, the Little girl. He accidentally wins it, but refuses it, that same night the daemons come to the village, destroyed the village and take the girl anf D’hel’s friends as prisoners. Now it is up to D’hel, TicTic and Tic Tic’s Son to save their captured friends, along a great adventure awaits for them fighting wild beasts, horrible weather and meeting different cultures along the way.

Roland Emmerich has us accustomed to impressive movies such as Independence Day, and The Day After Tomorrow, unfortunately, in 10.000 BC he fails in delivering an engaging and persuasive story. The movie manage to grab the audience attention with outstanding special effects and beautiful scenes, but at the end, its plot and script will let them with a sour taste; It lacks originality and surprise, with a predictable Disney ending. Aside the story, another let down of the movie is that it has a type of accidental comedy; our hero is presented with some situations that pretend to snag a smile from the audience, but it ends up ruining the mood of the movie. The cast did a great job performing their roles, specially Cliff Curtis (Tic Tic) and Steven Strait (D‘leh) performed at their best; Camille Belle (Evelet) performed good, but unfortunately she did not get enough screen play to shows us all her talents. The characters are sympathetic and charming in their own way, all the different civilizations are well worked, in that, production did a magnificent job; they are impressively design, all of them looked amazing from the hunters to the different civilizations, in special effects the movie is remarkable everything seems very real.

After all the hype Warner had produced with this movie, it was a great idea to released it in March, the movie is a fresh air from what there is showing now in theaters, but it does not meet expectations. 10000 B.C is a movie that goes wrong from beginning to end, it is Historically and biological inaccurate, and predictable entertaining wise; watching a primitive society taken over a more advance civilization has worked well in many movies, everybody likes an underdog, and furthermore, watching a young hero fight against everything for the love of his life has worked better, regrettably, the way how it is shown is not convincing enough. I recommend this movie to Sci-Fi and Disney fans, also for everyone who wants to spend a good time watching magnificent scenes and special effects, but if you were expecting the first blockbuster of the season you might be disappointed, 10000 B.C will be extinct from your memory in a short period of time.

Lol... Independence day an impressive movie? Gimme a break man...  Anyway 10000 bc was able to amuse me very very much. I came out of the theatre with a big grin on my face, which doesn't happen often so go out and see it! :-)

i was watching it right now with my family and i thought it was awesome!!! im definitly going to buy it.even for a 8 year old i like all tha stuff!!!
