BLU-RAY
REVIEW: BOOGIE NIGHTS

1/16/10

SYNOPSIS: From
writer/director P.T. Anderson comes the turbulehnt
behind-the-scenes story of an extended family of filmmakers who
set out to revolutionize the adult entertainment industry in the
seventies. Idealistic producer Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds) has
always dreamed of elevating his films into an art form. When he
discovers young actor Eddie Adams (Mark Wahlberg), Jack begins
to turn his dreams into reality. Under the stage name of Dirk
Diggler, Eddie soon gives the adult entertainment world a star
the likes of which it has never seen. But the rise to fame has
its costs, and soon Dirk finds himself sliding down the slippery
slope of sex, drugs and violence. The only question: can he get
himself back together before it's too late?
BLU-RAY: The film is
presented in 1080P with a 2.40:1 widescreen aspect ratio preserving its theatrical
format. It seems to be the same cut use for the DVD, however
the picture is just flawless, giving the film the clarity that
only high definition can provide. Warner Bros Home
Entertainment has done it again with this transfer. Not only the picture looks
excellent in this release, also the sound it is good, a 5.1
Dolby TrueHD in English that provides a nice complement to the
picture. It also includes 5.1 Dolby Digital language tracks
in Spanish and German, as well as subtitles in Spanish and
German
In terms of Special Features,
the Blu-ray Disc includes basically the DVD's original
featurettes. It includes 2 feature commentaries by director
and cast, additional scenes , The John C Reilly
Files:Outakes and Extended Sequences and the Michael Penn
Try Music Video.
This is a blu-ray to own, very
few times I recommend upgrading a DVD title. And
Boogie Nights is one of those tittles that deserve an upgrade.
In my eyes this film is a true classic. It is one of those
films that are hard to find these days. Overall the Blu-ray looks great
and should not be missing in anybody's collection, however it is
unfortunately that it doesn't include a digital copy.
