THE HANGOVER EXTREME
EDITION

10/10/10

OVERVIEW:
Some Guys Really Can’t Handle Vegas. Re-live the
bachelor party gone wrong when The Hangover: Extreme Edition arrives on Blu-ray Disc™
and DVD on October 12th from Warner Home Video. From the director of Old School,
comes a laugh-out-loud comedy about three groomsmen and their journey to retrace their
steps from a downright crazy Vegas night in hopes of finding the missing groom. Timed for
holiday gift giving, The Hangover: Extreme Edition contains an exclusive never before seen
28-page wedding album featuring missing photos from the ill-fated Vegas wedding and more
incriminating photos from the lost camera that you couldn’t see in theaters! Additionally, the
Extreme Edition boasts everything from the original 2-disc Special Edition, including a Map
of Destruction - retracing the fate-filled evening, action and cursing mash-ups, extras from
The Dan Band, Iron Mike and the three groomsmen, including a hilarious gag reel. The
Hangover: Extreme Edition on Blu-ray contains exclusive BD-Live content and picture in
picture commentary featuring Bradley Cooper, Zack Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Todd
Phillips.
SYNOPSIS: Two days before his wedding, Doug (Justin Bartha) drives to Las Vegas with his best
buddies Phil and Stu (Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms) and his future brother-in-law Alan
(Zach Galifianakis), for a blow-out bachelor party they vow they'll never forget.
But when the three groomsmen wake up the next morning with pounding headaches, they
can't remember a thing. Their luxury hotel suite is beyond trashed and the groom is nowhere
to be found. With no clue about what happened and little time to spare, the trio must attempt to retrace
their bad decisions from the night before in order to figure out where things went wrong in
the hopes of finding Doug and getting him back to L.A. in time for his wedding.
But the more they begin to uncover, the more they realize just how much trouble they're
really in.
FILM REVIEW:
Now a days it is very difficult to find a R rated comedy that
doesn’t include the Apatow bunch, however in "The
Hangover" director Todd Phillips and screenwriter John
Lucas and Scott Moore just manage to put a stop to Apatow
revolution with a brilliant piece of work. This movie has all
the ingredients to become a comedy classic, its raunchy, naughty
and like Ed helms says in the office its “freaking
hilarious“. It has been a long time since I had so much fun in
this type of films.
Similar to "Old
School" the flick doesn’t depend on just one character to
carry out the entire film. Every character provided their own
unique style of humor. For starters Zach Galifianakis brought
some of the raunchiness comedy onto the film that have been
mainly seen in Apatow movies. He reminded me of a young John
Belushi in animal house. This could well be his ticket out of
television and become one of Hollywood's next big comedians. The
same can be say about Bradley Cooper with that buddy persona
that he perfected, just like he did in "Failure to
Launch" and "Yes Man". Ed Helms also delivers a
strong performance in the film, as well as the rest of the cast.
I have to admit that I wasn't
expecting too much out of this film, however at the end of the
movie I could not find a reason for this movie not to be an
instant comedy classic.
BLU-RAY: The film is
presented in 1080P widescreen with a 2.40:1 aspect ratio preserving
the film's theatrical
format. It seems to be the same cut use in previous DVD
released. Picture with non obvious color saturation. Warner Home
Entertainment has done it again with this transfer. Not only the picture looks
excellent in this release, also the sound it is good, a 5.1
Dolby DTS-HD in English that provides a nice complement to the
picture. It also includes 5.1 Dolby Digital language tracks
in several languages including Spanish and Francais, as well as
multi language subtitles.
In terms of Special Features, this Blu-ray
Extreme Edition is loaded with bonus features including an exclusive never before seen 28-page wedding album featuring missing photos.
It also includes a featurette called "Map of
Destruction" which takes viewers behind-the-scenes to
the place were the filming took place. Also includes a CD Soundtrack sampler with 5 songs from the movie
as well as all previous version release featurettes. For a
limited time the Blu-ray includes a $7.50 OFF one admission
to Due Date, the new film from director Todd Phillips
in theaters this November.
Overall The Hangover Extreme Edition has all
the ingredients to make it a most own in the case that you don't
own any previous releases. Otherwise it is a gift to keep in
mind for this upcoming Holidays.
