BLU-RAY
REVIEW:THE LAST SONG

08/15/10

OVERVIEW: The Last Song, a coming of age love story, from bestselling
novelist and screenwriter Nicholas Sparks (Dear John and The Notebook) comes to Bluray
Hi-Def Combo Pack and DVD editions on August 17, 2010 from Touchstone Home
Entertainment. Bonus features include filmmaker commentary, making of the Miley Cyrus
music video “When I Look At You,” deleted scenes, set tour and alternate opening sequence.
SYNOPSIS: Based on
best-selling novelist Nicholas Sparks’ (“A Walk to
Remember,” “The Notebook”) latest novel, THE LAST SONG is
set in a small Southern beach town where an estranged father
(GREG KINNEAR) gets a chance to spend the summer with his
reluctant teenage daughter (MILEY CYRUS), who’d rather be home
in New York. He tries to reconnect with her through the only
thing they have in common—music—in a story of family,
friendship, secrets and salvation, along with first loves and
second chances. The film is directed by Julie Anne Robinson from
a screenplay by Sparks & Jeff Van Wie.
BLU-RAY:
The film is
presented in 1080P widescreen in a 2.35:1 aspect ration
preserving its theatrical format. The picture is just
flawless, bringing to perfection the beautiful Savannah
Georgia scenery . Not only the picture looks great in
this release, also the sound it is good, a 5.1 DTS-HD Master
Audio (48kHz/24bit) in English, Spanish and French that provides a
good complement to the picture. It also includes
English Spanish French
subtitles.
The Last Song Combo Box
includes a acceptable number of special features. It includes the
making and the music video "When I Look At You". Also
the Bluray includes a features commentary, as well as six
deletes scenes including an alternate opening to the film. In reality
these scenes don't add anything special to the movie. Like it is
usually the case with all Walt Disney Home Entertainment
releases, the bluray includes directors feature commentary and
a good behind the scenes feature covering in detail the
making of the film. The disappointment in this
release is the absents of a digital copy.
