REVIEW:
The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring
9/18/10
OVERVIEW: Oscar®-winning The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, one of the most magical, intensely spectacular epic adventures in motion picture history, can now be seen as never before when all three of Peter Jackson’s visual masterpieces explode onto Blu-ray™
individual discs September 14th. The disc set will reawaken the powerful connection that fans have to these films through rich, robust colors and crisp sound that home audiences can only experience on Blu-ray™ Disc. This highly anticipated release precedes Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s fall 2010 launch of The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest video game as well as their recently announced action RPG game The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, due out in 2011.
SYNOPSIS: In this first part of the Trilogy, the young hobbit Frodo Baggins inherits a ring; but this ring is no mere trinket. It is the One Ring, an instrument of absolute power that could allow Sauron, the dark Lord of Mordor, to rule Middle-earth and enslave its peoples. Frodo, together with a Fellowship that includes his loyal hobbit friends, humans, a wizard, a dwarf and an elf, must take the One Ring across Middle-earth to Mount Doom, where it first was forged, and destroy it forever. Such a journey means venturing deep into territory manned by Sauron, where he is amassing his army of Orcs. And it is not only external evils that the Fellowship must combat, but also internal dissension and the corrupting influence of the One Ring itself. The course of future history is entwined with the fate of the Fellowship. The film won four Oscars® for Best Visual Effects, Cinematography, Makeup and Original Score.
DVD: The groundbreaking
film in this Blu-ray disc is presented in full 1080P
widescreen format (2.40:1 aspect ratio) with a Dolby True HD
English 6.1 it also includes Español language tracks 2.0 Dolby
Digital, as well as it respective subtitles. The film looks
beautifully in HD, it is just perfect. The dark colors look
vivid and rich capturing the masterful special effects, like
they were mean to be watched. I found the TrueHD sound
acceptable, however I think that this film deserves a full
7.1 sound.
In terms of Special Features,
the Blu-ray Disc includes theatrical trailers, The Lord of
the Rings: Aragon's Quest game trailer; 3 spellbinding
documentaries, including Sci-Fi channel's A Passage to
Middle-earth; featurette gallery spotlighting the creation
of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantastical world and how the actors
embraced their characters; Enya May it Be music video;
Preview of the Two Towers movie; TV Spots.
This is a blu-ray to own, very
few times I recommend upgrading a DVD title. And any
of the Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of those tittles that deserve an upgrade.
In my eyes this film is a true classic. It is one of those
films that are hard to find these days. Overall the Blu-ray looks great
and should not be missing in anybody's collection, however it is
unfortunately that it doesn't include a digital copy.
