The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King

9/18/10

OVERVIEW: Oscar®-winning The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, one of the most magical, intensely spectacular epic adventures in motion picture history, can now be seen as never before when all three of Peter Jackson’s visual masterpieces explode onto Blu-ray™
individual discs September 14th. The disc set will reawaken the powerful connection that fans have to these films through rich, robust colors and crisp sound that home audiences can only experience on Blu-ray™ Disc. This highly anticipated release precedes Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s fall 2010 launch of The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest video game as well as their recently announced action RPG game The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, due out in 2011.
SYNOPSIS: It is time. For Frodo to overcome the wickedness of Gollum, the horrifying attack of the colossal arachnid Shelob and the soul-twisting allure of a ring that resists destruction. For Aragorn to take up the sword of his forebears and the crown of his birthright. For the mighty clash that wizard Gandalf calls “the great battle of our time.” And for the inspired culmination of the films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s literary classic. For the third time, a Rings movie was a Best Picture Academy Award® nominee and for the first time it claimed that prize (plus 10 more).* The King deserves its crown.
DVD: The film is
presented in 1080P widescreen preserving its theatrical
format. It seems to be the same cut use for the DVD, however
the picture is just flawless, giving the film the clarity that
only high definition can provide. Warner Home
Entertainment has done it again with this transfer. Not only the picture looks
excellent in this release, also the sound it is good, a 6.1
Dolby TrueHD in English that provides a nice complement to the
picture. It also includes 5.1 Dolby Digital EX language tracks
in Spanish , as well as subtitles in Spanish and English
In terms of Special Features,
the Blu-ray Disc includes Trailers; The Quest Fulfilled: A Director's Vision;
A Filmmaker's Journey: Making “The Return of the King”; National Geographic Special - “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”; lordoftherings.net Featurettes and TV Spots.
This is a blu-ray to own, very
few times I recommend upgrading a DVD title. And any
of the Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of those tittles that deserve an upgrade.
In my eyes this film is a true classic. It is one of those
films that are hard to find these days. Overall the Blu-ray looks great
and should not be missing in anybody's collection, however it is
unfortunately that it doesn't include a digital copy.
