REVIEW: OUR FAMILY WEDDING
07/18/10

OVERVIEW:
MTo have and to hold… ‘Til dads do us part. The battle of family traditions is on when Our Family Wedding ties the knot on Blu-ray and DVD July 13 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Academy Award&#reg; winner Forest Whitaker* (The Last King of Scotland) and Carlos Mencia (“Mind of Mencia”) star in this clash-of-cultures comedy about two overbearing dads who must put aside their differences to plan a wedding for their children, Marcus (Lance Gross; Meet the Browns) and Lucia (America Ferrera; “Ugly Betty”), in less than two weeks. As the wedding brings out the best and worst in both families, the young couple soon discovers the true meaning of love and finds there is truth to the saying - that when you marry someone, you marry their entire family.
SYNOPSIS:
Our marriage, their wedding." It's lesson number one for any newly engaged couple, and Lucia (America
Ferrera) and Marcus (Lance Gross) are no exception. In Fox Searchlight Pictures' OUR FAMILY WEDDING, they learn the hard way that the path to saying "I do" can be rife with familial strife. When they return from college and too suddenly announce their marriage plans, they soon discover that their fathers - two highly competitive over-the-top egos - can wreak a major amount of havoc on their special day.
With insults flying and tempers running high, it's anyone's guess if the alpha dads (Forest Whitaker and Carlos
Mencia) will survive to make it down the aisle in one piece. Lucia's mother (Diana Maria Riva) is busy planning the wedding of "her" dreams and the only levelheaded one in the bunch is Angela (Regina King), the groom's father's best friend and lawyer, who manages to keep her cool when the madness reaches a crescendo.
With only weeks to plan their wedding, Lucia and Marcus soon discover the true meaning of love and find there is truth to the saying - that when you marry someone, you marry their entire family.
DVD: Our Family Wedding is presented in
a widescreen format with a 2.35:1 aspect ration. The
transfer looks clean, judging from the watermark screening
received it is very difficult to determine the real quality
of the video, however I wont doubt that the final product
will be just fine. The picture is
complemented with a 5.1 English Dolby digital sound with
Spanish, French and English subtitles.
In terms of special
features the DVD doesn't contain much. It includes
six deleted
scenes and two extended scenes that don't add anything interesting to the movie, A short
but interesting behind-the-scene featurette “Til Dads Do Us
Part”,
in which the filmmakers and the cast talk about the film.
Finally it also includes a funny
gag reel.
