REVIEW: THE
FINAL DESTINATION
1/01/10
OVERVIEW: Experience the premonitions when The Final Destination arrives in 3-D on
Blu-ray this January 5th. In this fourth installment of the highly successful “Final Destination” series, Nick O’Bannon and his friends attempt to cheat death once and for all.
After a strange premonition causes friends to abandon their day at the speedway, just before a crushing pileup hurtles cars into the bleachers, they believe that they have cheated Death. But Death is only getting started. While the group thinks they have a new lease on life, unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning. As Nick’s premonitions continue and the crash survivors begin to die one-by-one--in increasingly gruesome ways--Nick must figure out how to survive before he, too, reaches his final destination.
On January 5th The Final
Destination will also be available ON DEMAND through Digital
Cable, Satellite TV, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game
consoles and it can be downloaded for rental or purchase on iTunes and Amazon Video On Demand. The Killer Cut will be
available exclusively for purchase on iTunes, PlayStation 3
game consoles and Amazon.
SYNOPSIS: The movie series that taps into your deepest fears returns with a new and imaginative chapter that delivers the expected – in so many keep-you-guessing, unexpected ways! A strange premonition causes friends to abandon their day at the speedway, just before a crushing pileup hurtles cars into the bleachers with fiery consequences. They have cheated Death. But Death is only getting started. From the director of Snakes on a Plane comes the eerie, innovative tale of the friends’ fierce fight to keep themselves and others alive.
DVD: The film is
presented in widescreen with a 1.85:1 aspect ration preserving its theatrical
format. The DVD includes the 2D and 3D version of the film
as well as a pair of red and blue 3D glasses. The 3D version is
okay I was able to appreciate some of the 3D scenes, but is not
something that is out of this world. I found the 2D version to
be better. The picture is complemented with a Dolby Digital English 5.1
with English and Spanish
subtitles.
In terms of Special Features the
DVD doesn't include much. Aside from the 3D and 2D version
of the films, it only includes nine deleted scenes, which
don't anything new to the story. Of course it includes a
digital copy of the film.
When
you look back at films that have become a cult of a
generation, in the last decade. The "Final Destination"
has to be one of the first ones that pops into mind.
New Line Cinema have decided to give a re-image to the film.
The end result is a film that has the same formula that its predecessors,
however the lack of an intelligent story will be a hard sell
to today's target audiences.
Overall the film is a nice
attempt to revive a franchise, however times have change and
movie-goers now days demand intelligent stories that at
least make you speculated about the outcome of the film. And
unfortunately it is something that The Final Destination can't
provide. If you haven't seen any of the previous film,
this film will make for a good rental, other than that skip
it.
