REVIEW: SEX AND THE CITY 2

SYNOPSIS: What happens after you say "I do"? Life is everything the ladies ever wished it to be, but it wouldn't be "Sex and the City" if life didn't hold a few more surprises...this time in the form of a glamorous, sun-drenched adventure that whisks the women away from New York to one of the most luxurious, exotic and vivid places on earth, where the party never ends and there's something mysterious around every corner. It's an escape that comes exactly at the right moment for the four friends, who are finding themselves in--and fighting against--the traditional roles of marriage, motherhood and more.
REVIEW: They’re back!
My girls are back and better than ever!
I have to tell you folks, I can’t get enough of
them and I know that a lot of you out there feel the same
way. My Honey,
Cine Marcos, said that this movie was even better than the
first one and I believe that I must agree.
The first
installment (and I say installment because I’m hoping that
there will be more) had us catching up with our girls and
leaving them with they’re lives happily resolved.
It was like visiting with friends that we haven’t
seen in several years.
We went a little in depth into the issues that each of them were
going through and then left them in a good place, Samantha
(Kim Cattrall) is back to being the man-eater that we love
(cause you know that settling down just doesn’t work for
her), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon)
comes to terms and finds comfort in being a wife and
mother all the while conquering the corporate world,
Charlotte (Kristen Davis) and Harry (Evan Handler) are
raising their adopted daughter Lily (Alexandra Fong) and are
blessed with a pregnancy and baby of their own and finally
but never lastly, our girl Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker)
gets her man! Carrie has run after Big (Chris Noth) for nearly as long as
we’ve known her and at the end they finally tied the knot.
Now that
we’re all caught up, let me tell you, WOW!!!!
The girls have arrived!
I mean that in every sense.
Carrie is no longer the struggling girl about town,
she is now a published and acclaimed writer living the life
in a beautiful Manhattan apartment with the love of her
life. The girls
still get together but in better places.
What makes this movie so incredible is that
everything is SO over the top!
We start with the most extravagant, ostentatious
gaylicious (did I just coin a new word?) wedding I have ever
seen! Needless
to say that having Liza Minnelli as the minister is just a
tiny detail at Stanford (Willie Garson) and Anthony’s
(Mario Cantone) wedding.
Can you believe it?
Carrie and Charlotte’s best gay friends get
married, to each other no less! Does it seem that I’m using a lot of exclamation marks?
You bet!
Life is
good for our ladies, what can I say.
But you know, that would be too comfy cozy and our
girls aren’t exactly the comfy cozy types. Now that Carrie finally caught her man, she seems to be
missing the chase. She’s
afraid that the sparkle is no longer there.
Charlotte who dreamed of being a wife and mother
finds herself having a really hard time dealing with the terrible twos of
her baby Rose. Miranda
is finally partner at her firm but finds that putting work
ahead of family is not as rewarding as she thought.
Samantha, well, Samantha is still a man-eater but she
is dealing with coming to terms with aging and the effects
of menopause and how that can change her incredible libido.
Samantha
saves the day and their sanity by arranging an incredible
all expense paid trip to an exotic Arab Country by the
fictional name of Abu Dhabi.
Let the games begin!
The extravagance is blinding, from the jet with
private enclosures, individual Maybach vehicles to the
incredible suite with personal butler for each one of the
girls. The
scenery of the desert was gorgeous, although I did miss my
dear New York because you don’t really get to see much of
it in the film. Maybe
that’s where the missing ½ star went.
Obviously, Candace Bushnell and Michael Patrick King
wrote this as a commercial venture but it works.
There are cool little cameos by Penelope Cruz, the
aforementioned Ms. Liza Minelli, Miley Cyrus and Mr. Tim
Gunn. Aidan.
Nuff’ said. Aidan
and Carrie bump into each other at the spice market in Abu
Dhabi (only in a movie) and certain complications occur but
in the end our girls prevail and if we know anything about
them, its that they are level headed and all will be well
with the world.
Should
you go see it? Well,
if as me you are a die hard fan of the series there is no
doubt, but if you’ve never seen the show or the first film
you can still go and enjoy the opulence of this film.
