THE TWILIGHT SAGA:
ECLIPSE
06/29/10
SYNOPSIS: In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob -- knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.
REVIEW: When it came to
writing a review for this movie considering it’s demographic,
I thought to myself who better than my 15 year old daughter who
was quite excited about going to the screening.
Here are her thoughts.
Jacob
Black: I'm
gunna fight for you until your heart stops beating.
Eclipse, The
Twilight Saga’s third movie, was much less than what I
expected. I feel it could have been better in different aspects.
In the commercials they show an immense amount of action as if
the movie was based on the fight … very wrong, the movie is
more like a soap opera. The main theme is basically, as we all
know, Bella and her die hard vampire love. All her loved ones
including Edward and Jacob continue to try to convince her that
she is better off staying human, but she claims she knows what
she wants. Bella is faced with other decisions that will affect
her feelings towards some of the choices she has made. She also
has some intense discussions with the wolf that loves her.
Another aspect that is interesting is that we finally see more
detail of the Cullen family and their background as far as how
they got to where they are now.
The special
effects in the movie are outstanding and very well done.
The conversion of the wolves looks so natural and real.
The scenery is breathtaking and it also fits the whole setting
of danger and fear. Having Forks as the main location, the
mountains, the woods, the cloudiness, and constant rain matches
the vampires. The weather plays a big part in one of my favorite
scenes of the movie when heat is needed.
Someone comes to the rescue.
Kristen
Stewart is still the same Kristen; really no change in her
acting. I do believe
there is a slight difference though.
She shows more expression even though my father says
she’s the same. The new actress for the villain Victoria,
Bryce Dallas Howard, does pretty well even though I see a change
in the character’s attitude as the old Victoria was more
furious and Bryce is more calm and less aggressive. Dakota
Fanning is one good sharp vampire. She can play her role well.
She has no facial expression when she uses her power.
You couldn’t tell until you saw the person screaming.
Her attitude is priceless and she has the face of an evildoer.
Also, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) acts awesome as a
fighter for Bella’s heart. Edward is being as supportive as he
can be with Bella’s decisions, and knows that she can change
her mind in a heart beat, and that breaks his heart. Alice
is always a very “stand out” character. She’s gorgeous and
is as caring as can be. Jasper and Rosalie play bigger parts in
this move; these characters really pop out. You will also meet a
lot of new characters that make up the “new army”.
Overall the
movie focuses on figuring out the purpose of this “new
army”, who’s behind it, and how they’re going to fight
back as well as the ongoing fight for Bella’s love. There’s
a lot of interaction between the two rivals. The movie is geared
towards teens like me. I enjoyed it for the most part and my
lesson learned is that when we encounter a decision to make we
have to choose wisely because others never had the chance to
choose. When
comparing to the other Twilights, I still like New Moon the
most.

I was extremely excited to see this next
chapter in the Twilight Saga, and my six
yeat old daughter, a huge "Team
Edward" follower, fueled my love
for it even more. With that said, I was
almost dissapointed when I left the
theatre after the midnight showing. I am
an avid reader of the books, and usually
read them once or twice a month. I felt
in the movie they just touched on the
key points from the book. This would be
fine in most cases....but we are not
dealing with an average book or movie. I
felt that there was information missing
that could have helped move the story
along. I now know what information I
need to fill in when I see it again.
As for the acting, I felt the three main
characters (Bella, Edward
& Jacob) did an excellent job
in getting their point across in the
movie. Ashley did an outstanding job as
usual in the role of Alice, as did
Kellen Lutz, Jackson
Rathbone (Emmett & Jasper),
and both Peter Faccinelli (Carlise) and
Elizabeth Reasor (Esme).
I felt that Nikki
Reed (Rosalie) was a bit off this
time around. It was hard to watch her
and even harder to believe her. Bryce
did a very good job as Victoria. It is
hard to jump into a role in which a
previous actor did a wonderful job and
has a following. For those avid
watchers, there is a difference in the
acting. Nothing wrong with it, just
different.
Even though I left feeling slightly
dissapointed, I will watch it over and
over again because I love the story
itself. Just be prepared for some
obvious differences and everything will
be perfect! |
