OVERVIEW: On January 11th, the hilariously gory, sexy action thriller PIRANHA shows its teeth on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD, courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Directed by acclaimed genre filmmaker Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes) and starring Oscar® nominee Elisabeth Shue (Best Actress in a Leading Role, 1995, Leaving Las Vegas), Adam Scott (TV’s “Party Down”, Leap Year), Jerry O'Connell (TV’s “The Defenders”, Scream 2), Ving Rhames (Dawn of the Dead, Mission: Impossible series), Steven R. McQueen (TV’s “Vampire Diaries”), Jessica Szohr (TV’s “Gossip Girl”) and sizzling Playboy cover girl Kelly Brock (The Italian Job), and with cameos by Eli Roth (Hostel series) and Hollywood legends Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws) and Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future series), PIRANHA sent critics and moviegoers into a frenzy of amusement this summer with its shocking mix of horror, humor and sex. Now action and horror fans can experience the movie The New York Times called “the future of cinema” at home with the latest in eye-popping, truly immersive high definition 3D home entertainment technology.
SYNOPSIS: Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for Spring Break, a riot of sun and drunken fun. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers; a new type of terror is about to be cut loose on Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents.
DVD: The film is
presented in widescreen with a 2.40:1 aspect ration preserving its theatrical
format. Sony
Pictures Home
Entertainment has done it again with this transfer. Not only the picture looks
excellent in this release, also the sound it is good. A
Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround providing a nice complement to the
picture it also includes English and Spanish
subtitles.
Overall
Piranah manages to deliver a fun gory ride that keep audiences
fully entertain for the entire length of the film. Director Alexandre
Aja successfully reboots
the 1978’s spoof in a whole new fashion. This is
probably 2010’s
best pop corn movie.
