REVIEW: REPO CHICK
02/06/11

OVERVIEW: Acclaimed director Alex Cox (Repo Man, Sid
& Nancy, Straight To Hell) will introduce an "unlikely hero in a chaotic
world" with the 2011 opening of his latest film, REPO CHICK. Released by Industrial Entertainment and starring Jaclyn Jonet, Miguel
Sandoval and Rosanna Arquette, REPO CHICK opened in New York City at the
IFC Center on January 14 and in Los Angeles at the Downtown Independent on
January 21. The film will debut on DVD and Blu-ray February 8, 2011
accompanied by bonus content.
Despite the film's title, Cox recently told the Village Voice that REPO
CHICK is not a sequel. "It's entirely a freestanding film about a very
wealthy young woman who finds meaning stealing from the middle class and the
poor. You wouldn't need to see Repo Man to make sense of it. It's another
comedy about the economic crisis. And how the crisis has intensified so much
in this round."
Shot almost entirely on a sound stage against a green screen, the film's
visual effects were created by Collateral Image and Oscar winner Phil
Tippett, whose credits include The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi,
Cloverfield and Drag Me To Hell.
SYNOPSIS: Spoiled rich girl Pixxi De La Chasse has been disinherited by her family due
to her numerous arrests for bad driving, her failure to get a job and her
overall lack of some semblance of a responsible life. When her car gets
repossessed, Pixxi ends up getting hired by repo men Arizona Gray and
Aguas, and she soon becomes the best repo chick around with the help of her
entourage - punk girl confidante, model-looks bodyguard and flaming stylist.
While she's on the hunt for some antique railroad cars which carry a
million-dollar bounty reward (also being sought out by a secret government
agency!), a clueless Pixxi ends up on a wacky train ride which is actually a
plot by a terrorist organization. If their demands for the criminalization
of golf are not met, then the train (whose caboose is carrying long-missing
growler bombs from the Soviet Communist era!) is headed straight for
downtown Los Angeles. It's up to Pixxi De La Chasse to save LA!
