FILM REVIEW: This is a movie that engages the audience and delivers a very unique and satisfying experience. It portrays a more realistic battle engagement than other comparable films of the recent past. Will this be enough to make this movie a big hit? The answer is yes. This movie will more than likely set a standard on how films of this genre will be shot in the years to come. Let's face it, we all love being in the middle of the action, especially when it deals with the beloved Navy Seals. And Act of Valor does just that. As you may already know, this film stars active duty Navy Seals which may be the reason for this sense of realism. I can't say if having them as the main actors was the ideal thing or not, but just knowing that they are the real deal was good enough for me. Nonetheless, having them involved in production was absolutely necessary. I am certain that they provided all the small details that make this film great. And for those that call themselves Call of Duty fans, this movie will be above and beyond the call(Battlefield fans may like that
one..lol). For those that don't know, Call of Duty and Battlefield are combat type games played on video game consoles. I am one of these so called fans by the way. Yet, my review is done with an attempt to be unbiased. Furthermore, my girlfriend also really enjoyed this movie and she doesn't play video games whatsoever. But for the gaming community, you will feel like you are in the middle of your favorite game doing the things you so much love such as aiming down red dot sights, doing peek-a-boo shots around wall corners, using night vision scopes,
sniping(sorry, no quick scoping), and the beloved flashbang grenade. You guys will love it! And I believe the massive following of these games is what is really going to push this movie in the box office.
As you can see, I really enjoyed this movie. Yet, there were a few things that I do believe could have been better. For one, the acting in the first few scenes, mostly the dialogue, did not come across as genuine. You can tell that these heroes were no Oscar nominees. But after a little while, they seemed to get better to the point I didn't even notice. Either way, for not being actors, they did a great job. Who knows, it may have been that the first few shots made them camera shy. And the other thing that could have been improved was possibly the plot. It was a decent plot but could have been better. As my boss always says, there is always room for improvement. There were times, mostly during early plot development, that I desired for a little more. But I am greedy that way.
To sum things up, this is a great film. Actually one of the films I have enjoyed the most in the last six months or so. And in terms of finances, this is a movie well worth the high priced movie ticket. Get some
popcorn and enjoy!
