REVIEW:
Nick Fury: There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, so when we needed them, they could fight the battles that we never could...
YES! Six times YES! One YES! for every member of the most remarkable group of superheroes ever assembled into one film.
Tony Stark: Let's do a headcount: Your brother, the demigod; a super-soldier, a living legend who actually lives up to the legend; a man with breathtaking anger management issues; a couple of master assassins;
Under the general direction of Nick Fury, the Avenger Initiative is finally a reality. Finally! It was very much worth the wait. What a movie, what an adventure, what an experience! Sure The Dark Knight can easily be considered to be the best superhero movie ever made only to be equaled potentially by Dark Knight Rises, but damn this is the best for pure adrenaline rush and overall excitement especially watching all these nostalgic comic book characters working together. I always take my handy little notebook with me to take notes as I watch a screening. Well, this time it was almost pointless because I didn’t take a single note during the movie, partly because it was extra dark where I was sitting and mostly because my eyes were not coming off the screen. This film is fast, powerful, and uber epic. It is also quite funny. There is a well balanced and almost unexpected amount of humor used to lighten it up and add to the overall enjoyment of this motion picture. It’s got it all! And speaking of well balanced, it is very pleasing to see just about equal amounts of screen time for each of the Avengers. None of them really steals the show or stands out way above the others and that’s a good thing because it should be about the Avengers and not an individual superhero. Each of the fight scenes and larger scale battle scenes will blow you away. The special effects will blow you away. Scarlett Johansson blew me away. The Stan Lee cameo will . . . no not really but there is one and as always it is a treat.
One weakness you could find in this film is that the storyline is not too elaborate. Honestly, it doesn’t really matter. All the characters in this movie are so larger than life that their presence alone makes up for the lack of a sophisticated plot. The proof is in the fact that this 140 minute journey might be one of the quickest 140 minutes you’ll ever spend and it might leave you craving for more. I for one can hardly wait to see it again, preferably in IMAX 3D. Yes, the 3D is worth it. The performances were as good as you’d expect from this all star cast from top to bottom. Each of the performers transferred their respective character well into this new installment. Joss Whedon was exceptionally good with his performance as Director of this film. Most of his directing career has been TV work and he shows that he can more than handle such a massive production as this with flying colors (such as green, deep shiny red and gold, some silver and red, and a little bit of red, white, and blue). Thank you Joss, thank you cast, thank you Stan Lee, and thank you Marvel! On a personal note, this was one of my most anticipated movies of my life and it did not let me down. If I could rate it more than 5 stars, I would.
