SYNOPSIS: When frightening events start to occur in their home, young couple Kelly (Ashley Greene) and Ben (Sebastian Stan) discover they are being haunted by a presence that was accidentally conjured during a university parapsychology experiment. The horrifying apparition feeds on their fear and torments them no matter where they try to run. Their last hope is an expert in the supernatural, Patrick (Tom Felton), but even with his help they may already be too late to save themselves from this terrifying force.

REVIEW: What an unbelievable excuse for film-making. I’m still recovering, not from fear and entertainment, but from the shock of how horrible this movie was. It is really difficult to articulate, in words, how disappointing this movie turned out to be. Part of my disappointment stems from the realization that this horror flick had the makings and potential of a first-rate movie, but some how could not deliver. It seems to have attracted decent actors and produced very good cinematography and classic scary movie tactics that occasionally set the mood. However, the plot line and the protagonist seems to have fallen short on substance. Writer/director Todd Lincoln really dropped the ball on this one and made it so obvious that it must be his first time at the helm.

The most misleading part of this movie is that it started with an interesting opening that set the stage for mystery and intrigue. Nevertheless, it dragged on with the initial opening scenes being the most interesting parts and as time went along, one had to wonder if and when the plot would reveal itself. Moreover, the weird events in the movie seemed to be stitched together and were very random and unrelated. The movie was slow, boring and loaded with lots of question marks that never really got answered throughout the hour and twenty two minute runtime.

The only notable and memorable feature to this movie worth mentioning is the fact that, in the space of one summer, there are two movies released featuring the market giant Costco Wholesale Corporation, with the other being The Watch. One can only speculate that product placement played an integral role in bringing such a disastrous movie (The Apparition) to fruition. 

As a horror flick enthusiast, I see this film as very insulting to the typical movie-going audience. Hollywood must be thinking that today’s audiences are absolute idiots and deserve nothing better for their money. This movie is utterly beneath the “B” movie level and I certainly can’t remember a worst movie made in recent times. It certainly does not deserve anything better than one and a half stars (out of five) and I would not encourage wasting money on a DVD or any other media, to watch this “hot mess”!
