June Pictures will produce and finance Sean Baker’s THE FLORIDA PROJECT, the next feature film from the writer/director of last year’s critically-acclaimed TANGERINE.
THE FLORIDA PROJECT is about a precocious 7 year-old and her rag-tag group of close friends whose summer break is filled with childhood wonder, possibility, and a sense of adventure, while their parents and the adults around them struggle with hard times.
As with TANGERINE, director Baker has reteamed with Chris Bergoch on the screenplay. In contrast to his last film which was shot on an iPhone, Baker will shoot the new one on 35mm. Principal cast will be announced in the coming weeks. THE FLORIDA PROJECT begins production on location in the Sunshine State this summer.
Producers of THE FLORIDA PROJECT include in alphabetical order: Sean Baker, Chris Bergoch, Kevin Chinoy, Andrew Duncan, Alex Saks, Francesca Silvestri, and Shih-Ching Tsou. Darren Dean is executive producing. The production entities involved with the film are June Pictures (Duncan and Saks’ company), CRE Films (Baker and Bergoch’s company), and Freestyle Picture Company (Chinoy and Silvestri’s company).
ICM Partners represents Baker and domestic distribution rights to THE FLORIDA PROJECT.
