The People's Review of Anna And The KIng

It's a romantic film it gives us ideas on how people live back then. I like
the part when the King fell inlove with Anna because of her courage to fight
for the right. I really loved it.

comments = A wonderful movie. I'd rate it- in my book- next to "Dr.Zivahgo"
Heart wrenching, unrequited love- the scenery was beautiful - Chow is
absolutely gorgeous and perfect for the part. Saw it twice in the theater
and can hardly wait to buy it.

comments = Why remake a classic? Although Jodie is a fine actress, she will
never replace Deborah Kerr as Anna. Not to mention Chow Yun-Fat in Yul
Brynner's role. Definitely not worth seeing so as not to spoil what good
memories remain of The King and I.

VERY IMPRESSED WITH HIS ACTING...AND GOOD LOOKS. I HAVE RECOMMENDED THIS

I loved this movie!!! I haveno idea who decided to make a movie that
seemed more honest, but I congratulate them on a job well done. This
was entirely believable and showed Anna as a true heroine and someone who
influenced Kings. She ranks right up there with many Biblical heroines
as far as I am concerned. The cast on this movie was excellent and the
scenery is spectacular. The palace, which my husband says is the real one,
is truly beautiful. Bravo to all involved with this movie!!

This movie was one of THE best movies that I have ever seen! When it
was in theaters, I went to see it twice! Both times I came out of the
theater, I was practically crying buckets of bittersweet tears!
Definitely a must see for anyone who likes romance, and bittersweet endings!

This movie is a MUST SEE. Nevermind the critics. Chow Yun-Fat is
not to be missed, nor is the sumptuous, rich cinematography, the enchanting
children and the alluring epic history of Siam at its crossroads.

An amazing movie experience, we loved every minute of it. The recreation of the Grand
Palace is awe inspiring. Far far superior to the stupid, annoying, singing version, The
King and I. Go see it

One of the most poignant movies I've seen. It was stunning. I just returned
from living in Thailand for 18 months, and they captured the beautiful, strong spirit of
the people perfectly (though the language was pretty inaccurate). Everyone must see
this film--often!

I saw the sneak preview last night. It was better than the musical and the animated movie
combined. It kept the audiences interest the whole time. I didn't even notice how long it
was. I would definately recommend this movie.

Excellent, lavish with just the right amount of action and superb story line It didn't
gloss over the violence but didn't dwell either. No "super highs" or
"lows," just an exceppent entertaining story.

The movie was really really superb. Chow was fantastic as the king, and the costumes were
brillant, as was the music and scenery. A long movie, but you hardly notice it.

I refer to IDF about his description that the film was filmed in Thailand. well, actually
it was filmed in Pulau Pinang, Perak and Langkawi in Malaysia. The props and costumes were
simply brilliant. And when looking at the sets, I remained in awe as I was informed
earlier that most of them were made from wood, plaster and rubber plants. The research and
detail that went into reproducing the Siamese structures of the 19th century here in
Malaysia deserves much respect and is accredited to Oscar winning production designer
Luciana Arrighi. Once again, Hollywood has worked its magic. Also worth noting are
performances by Syed Alwi, Deanna Yusoff and local comedians Adflin Shauki, Harith
Iskander, Mano Maniam
and Shanthini Venugopal.

An absolutely magnificent film. Nowadays, many remakes have been just a repeat of the
classics, but this movie kept its own identity. Awesomely, it kept your attention and gave
you outcomes you didn't expect. A must see, definitely!!!

I would like to see more credit given to Stephen King. This film brings his writing to
life. Without him there would never have been The Green Mile. Finally, as he has proven so
many times, he is more than just a horror writer. This is a great story

The first word that came to mind was spectacular after seeing the movie. The settings of
the entire movie was marvelous. Two thumbs up! Being able to brag about the beauty of
Malaysia was a plus too.

Sumptuous? yes. Visually stunning? yes. Beautiful score? yes. Fact? Not even slightly.
King Mongkut kept elaborate diaries and Anna is only ever mentioned once. She might have
been employed by the King - but to claim that she had such an influence over the Thai king
is offensive to western historians as well as Thai. Nonetheless, I thought the sets were
absolutely stunning - the attention to accuracy and detail was outstanding. Pity the same
couldn't be said for the story itself. Still, as a ficticious drama, it has a lot going
for it, and in that sense, go and enjoy it!

A movie well done. The cast were great. Besides fantastic acting by Jodie Foster and Chow
Yuen Fatt, my deepest compliment to the local talent especially Deanna Yusoff, Syed Alwi,
Adflin Shauki, Shaun Gazi, and others for effort. The best history movie I've ever watch.
Would not mind seeing it again though.

Excellent - a rich cultural tapestry, casting was well done esp for two main characters,
advisors to king, traitor to king, engaging and credible interpretation of the story, both
my husband and I loved it - we'll surely purchase it to own.

This is a brilliantly moving film. It is most certianly a must-see, it is a must see
for anyone. The moving, though fictional story, the beautiful setting, and brilliant
portrayals by Jody Foster and Chow Yun-Fat rank it as one of the best film s I have seen
in a long time.

First like to give score to those "big shot" newspaper movie columnists. For
their reviews of this movie, the score is 40 no matter what they scored the movie. Most of
them tried to compare this one with 1956's Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr one to show they
know the movie history. Yes, I think they do, but they misused their judgement and so
called standards, if there is any. Basically "Anna and the King" and the 1956
one are two different types of movies. One is a drama and the other is musical, so how can
one compare them equally? Luckily I am old enough and have chances to see them both and I
like both of them very much. The new one, I like it better, because I consider it is more
difficult for both actors (Jodi Foster and Yun-Fat Chow) and director Andy Tennant to
accomplish a movie like this. Especially we (movie goers and entire Hollywood movie
industry) have been influenced by the (again) the big-shot movie reviewers who are
influenced by the 1956 one and Yul Brynner's personal icon. Personally I think a movie
full of singing and dancing can "hide" a lot of shortcomings, because people got
distracted. A drama if wants to be attractive, you got to have a good story and actors
that can interpret the story well enough. Certainly this is a movie, so a good movie scene
and music will be a plus, which this one has it, but it won't be like singing and dancing
to distract people. That's why I consider Jodi Foster and Yun-Fat Chow did so well in the
movie and it's enough to break the old one's influence. I did not give 100 because I think
it's a little bit to long. It could be shorter and tighter. Other than that, it's a
"must see" movie. Chow's and Jodi's fans should have no doubt to go see it.
Anyone in question should go also. It worths the money every penny.
