Apple TV has released the official trailer for “Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook,” an eight‑episode culinary docuseries premiering globally on November 6, 2026. The series follows Nora Lum (Awkwafina) on a cross‑country culinary journey as she attempts to revive her family’s beloved Cantonese restaurant, Lum’s, once a staple in Flushing, New York.
Nora has inherited the family legacy — but not the cooking skills. As she openly admits, “I can’t cook. Like, at all.” With guidance from acclaimed chefs, restaurateurs, and her own family, she sets out to build her kitchen confidence, explore contemporary Asian American cuisine, and reimagine Lum’s for a new generation.
Throughout the series, Awkwafina travels across the country to learn from culinary experts and reconnect with the cultural roots that shaped her family’s restaurant. Her journey includes:
- A crash course at the Culinary Institute of America
- A Texas barbecue road trip with Jimmy O. Yang
- Lessons from culinary icons Roy Choi and Martin Yan
- A visit to Hawai‘i to explore the tiki culture that inspired her grandmother’s restaurant
- Hands‑on experience serving in a restaurant in Los Angeles’ Chinatown
The season builds toward a high‑stakes opening night — with her grandmother as the toughest VIP diner.
