Ladies and gentlemen and movie fans of all ages, once again you are treated to two reviews for the price of one. Let’s start with your friendly neighborhood Cinemarcos with his take on Zombieland Double Tap. I will be honest with you, it took me a while, like earlier this year, to finally watch the first Zombieland because I thought it was probably cheap and dumb. I did end up being disappointed . . . in myself for taking so long to see such a fun movie. This thing is a hidden gem of a comedy. It’s got it all, and the best part is that it is as light-hearted as it can possibly be. We get, of course, the zombies in all their gore and glory along with a typical founding premise as to their existence, which then begets plenty of gunplay and violence, which then begets plenty of grossness, and all that begets good action, thrills, and a fight for survival, and all that covered in excellent comedy, along with an excellent cast to deliver the excellent comedy and action, a cool set of rules, a hint of despair, and another hint of romance and you’ve got yourself an all-around fun movie. Now even though I’m talking about the first Zombieland, I’m actually also talking about Double Tap. This one is every bit as good as the first and then some. More cast, more gore, more action, more humor, more romance, and more fun. I’ve got to at least mention one of my new favorite characters of all time, Madison, played by Zoey Deutch. She really is adorable, and hilarious. Movies like these are the reason why I enjoy going to the movies . . . to have some fun. So, folks, once again . . .
Tallahassee: It’s time to nut up or shut up.
I have to start by letting you know that I do not like zombie films. Not at all. The Dawn of The Dead movies have not been seen by these eyes, no sir. That being said, as my husband Cinemarcos mentioned earlier, I also had not seen Zombieland until recently. Because I reiterate, I don’t like zombies, I don’t like gore and brain eating which is what most of us expect from zombies. But I gave in and watched Zombieland and found that I really loved it and couldn’t wait to see Zombieland Double Tap. Why, you might ask did Zombieland change my opinion of zombie movies? Well, actually it didn’t. I still hate zombie movies, but Zombieland and Zombieland Double Tap is more than just a zombie movie. See Zombie movies are all about that aforementioned gore and brain eating. Zombieland and Zombieland Double Tap truly is more about the humans, Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), who they were before, how they survive, and how they come to be in each other’s company. The one thing they have in common is that they are looking for a place to call home and in the case of Columbus, a family to belong to. All that said, there was a little more “in your face” zombie gore in this film, but, if its possible, tastefully done. You will see possibly a few more “humans” Rosario Dawson and Luke Wilson to name a few. Is it possible to live a happy life in Zombieland? I don’t know for sure, but why don’t you go see the film and see for yourself.
