Lionsgate has released the official trailer for The Gates, director John Burr’s new thriller following three college friends whose road trip takes a deadly turn. The film arrives in theaters March 13, 2026.
The story follows Derek, Kevin, and Tyon (Mason Gooding, Algee Smith, and Keith Powers), three college students who take an ill‑advised shortcut through a remote gated community. After witnessing a murder, they find themselves trapped behind the walls, blamed for the crime, and hunted through the night.
As fear fractures their trust in one another, the real threat emerges: James Van Der Beek, playing a charismatic but terrifying patriarch who controls the community and manipulates its residents with chilling precision.
