FILM REVIEW:
Ultron:
[to the Avengers] I know you're good people. I know you mean well. But you just didn't think it through. There is only one path to peace... your extinction.
No other Marvel movie has been more widely anticipated than this one, except for maybe the first Avengers. Right off the bat I will admit that this one, although at least as good as the first, did not have as special a feel as the first for that very reason, because it’s not the first. Seeing Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, and Black Widow team up in one movie for the first time ever is kinda hard to top. It truly was a special cinematic experience. So once that’s established, now it’s just the next chapter. Don’t get me wrong, it is still highly anticipated, highly exciting, and incredibly action packed, so again, it is at least as good as the first. It is epic and intense as you’d expect. It is also quite funny and witty too. Both Avengers movies had a balanced mix of the right amount of humor along with drama and action. And as far as battle sequences go, well yeah, down to an art form. Just like the first Avengers, we get treated to all kinds of battles. There are battles between individuals, battles involving large groups, verbal battles as well as physical and even some mental battles too. Throughout it all of course are some really excellent special effects . . . truly amazing, and watching it in 3D makes it all the better.
Maria Hill: [from trailer] All set up boss.
Tony Stark: Actually he's the boss.
[points to Captain America]
Tony Stark: I just pay for everything and design everything, make everyone look cooler.
As far as the Avengers go, no matter how insurmountable the obstacle/villain may seem, they will always have a fighting chance if they work as a team. This film really highlights that fact and adding a little more to the excitement of it all is the fact that the team is expanding. I don’t want to give too much away but let’s just say that this film incorporates a few more characters, some we are familiar with and fond of and some that are new and just as thrilling.
Tony Stark: Does anybody remember when I put a missile through a portal, in New York City? We were standing right under it. We're the Avengers, we can bust weapons dealers the whole doo-da-day, but how do we cope with something like that?
Steve Rogers:
Together.
Tony Stark:
We'll lose.
Steve Rogers:
We do that together too.
The storyline for this film is sufficiently intricate to make it interesting and not some cookie cutter superhero flick. Its development was conducive to conflict which is exactly what we want as an audience to make the movie more entertaining (no conflict, no story). It was also great to see that all cast members were intact for this second Avengers installment. One of the most important cast members makes his usual cameo too, Mr. Stan Lee. The director of this film, Joss Whedon, also returns to bring us more Avenger magic. He has done a respectable job with such a demanding genre that has such a demanding fan base. He has put together, once again, an amazing spectacle. After all, it’s not called Marvel for nothing.
