OVERVIEW: Inspired by the provocative true story about a
crew of former strip club employees who turn the tables on their greedy Wall
Street clients, HUSTLERS arrives on Digital November 26, 2019 and on 4K Ultra
HD, Blu-ray TM, DVD and On Demand December 10, 2019 from STXfilms and Universal
Pictures Home Entertainment. Dazzling critics and audiences alike, the “fiercely
funny” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone) drama follows a band of business-savvy
strippers as they unite to seek revenge in what critics are hailing as “one of

real life con.
SYNOPSIS: HUSTLERS follows Destiny (Wu) a young stripper struggling to make ends meet. That is, until she meets Ramona (Lopez), the club’s savvy top earner, who shows her the way toward making big bucks. But when the 2008 economic collapse hits their Wall Street clientele hard, Destiny and Ramona concoct a plan with their fellow strippers to turn the tables on these greedy power players. It’s a wild, modern-day Robin Hood tale that critics are hailing as “enormously entertaining” (Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post). .
FILM REVIEW: Okay, let’s get the obvious out of the way right off the bat. I’m a guy. I’m a Hispanic, heterosexual guy. Thus almost by default, I love me some JLo (and not just because of her body). So let’s see, we have a new movie coming out that’s about some strippers making ends meet in NYC starring Jennifer Lopez. WHAT?! I’m there, sign me up for that. So yes, fans of Ms. Lopez and of beautiful scantily clad women in general, this film does not disappoint. I mean DAAAMN! Jennifer is still fierce at 50 and looks as good as ever. As for the rest of the girls, well, um, YES! Definitely yes, they all look amazing. Without going any further, I need to mention one aspect of the film that stood out for me and that was the wardrobe. Wow! Talk about sexy and appropriate. Sure this is a picture about strippers so of course they will be dressed a lot more provocatively than your average woman, but still, beyond that, the dresses and outfits both in and out of the club were sharp, eye-opening and jaw-dropping, and they made the girls look marvelous. But wait, hold on a sec, don’t be turned off by my drooling and testosterone filled rant, or by the fundamental nature of this story, because this movie isn’t just about scantily clad women in sexy outfits showing a lot of skin and such. There is a lot more to this movie than meets the eye. Believe it or not, this movie has depth, emotion, and drama. It is based on a true story of these hard working women trying to make a living and when times got tough they took matters into their own hands and still got paid, but in questionable ways. Ramona (Lopez) was the ring leader of sorts and played a kind of Godmother-ish role in this gang. You could describe this movie as “The Wolf of Wall Street” meets the Cheetahs of the Strip Club. There is a little buzz going around that Ms. Lopez could possibly get an Oscar nod for her performance in this film. At first I was like, huh?, but having seen the movie I’ve got to admit that it is a possibility and a pleasant surprise. Another sharp performance was given by Constance Wu. My initial reaction to her being cast in this film was one of confusion. Compared to the rest of the cast, she just looks too innocent and maybe even a touch of too meek. Once again, I was proven wrong because she fit her role perfectly and totally nailed it. Many of you may be wondering about Cardi B’s performance. I can tell you this much, for this kind of a role, she’s a natural. She was direct and boisterous as Diamond, but she normally is direct and boisterous as Cardi B anyway. As for the main “crew” though, it was a thing of beauty, pun intended. While on the prowl, when they start the actual attack, they look like the freakin Blue Angels in perfect formation coming at you. It’s a thing of beauty but very scary and intimidating too. Their story is one of survival, striving for independence, hustling by any means necessary. It is beautiful and it is criminal very much at the same time. The movie is fun and entertaining and not just eye candy. You might want to give it a chance.
