BLU-RAY
REVIEW: FRACTURE

06/30/09

SYNOPSIS: Academy
Award® winner Anthony Hopkins and Academy Award® nominee
Ryan Gosling are brilliant in this "exceptionally
suspenseful nail-biter" (Rex Reed) that's so smart it
"doesn't let go, even after the final twist" (Gene Shalit,
"Today"). Ted Crawford (Hopkins) brutally murders his wife
and calmly waits for the police to arrest him. With the
weapon and a signed confession in hand, Deputy D.A., Willy
Beachum (Gosling), believes a conviction is a slam dunk;
that is until the case completely unravels. Now, with little
evidence, Beachum goes head to head with the cunning Mr.
Crawford in a desperate search for the truth and the answer
to one burning question: How is this guy getting away with
murder?
OVERVIEW:
On June 16,2009 Warner Home
Entertainment will be releasing on Blu-ray for the first
time, the mystery thriller Fracture. The 2007 film directed
by Gregory Hobbit and starring Anthony Hopkins, Ryan
Gosling, David Strathairn, Rosamund Pike, Embeth Davidtz,
Billy Burke and Cliff Curtis The Blu-ray will
include the same special features included in the previous DVD
release.
BLU-RAY: The film is presented in 1080P widescreen
with a 2.40:1 aspect ratio preserving its theatrical format.
It seems to be the same cut use for the DVD, however the
picture is just flawless, giving the film the clarity that
only high definition can provide. Warner Home
Entertainment has done it again with this transfer. Not only the picture looks
excellent in this release, also the sound it is good, a 5.1
Dolby TrueHD in English that provides a nice complement to
the picture. It also includes 5.1 Dolby Digital language
tracks in German, Russian and Polish voiceover, as well as
subtitles in Spanish, German, Polish, Russian and Ukranian.
In terms of Special Features,
the Blu-ray Disc includes basically the DVD's original
featurettes, which are just very slim. It only includes 2
alternate endings, that don't change the perspective of the
original ending. It also includes a few additional scenes,
that can be completely ignore. Yes, it doesn't include
feature commentaries. It is just a ashamed that a powerful
film like this one doesn't include at least one worth
watching special feature.
This is a blu-ray to own if
you appreciate good acting, very
few times I recommend upgrading a DVD title. And
Fracture is one of those tittles that deserve an upgrade.
In my eyes this film is a true classic. It is one of those
films that are hard to find these days. Overall the Blu-ray
looks great and should not be missing in anybody's
collection, however it is unfortunately that extras are so
poor.
