SEASON REVIEW: Of all the
series on television today, Heroes used to be one of my top
3 favorite, one of the ones that I waited for as more than
just a program on TV, but as an event. Now we are on the 3rd
Season of this series, and the rules have changed. There are
now more series on TV than ever before, and now we even have
more, great series, popping up on channels like Showtime and
HBO and the bar is even higher for these series to hold our
attention. That being said, even if this was not the case,
even if the status quo was identical to what it was when
this series began, I would have to say, to my dismay and
with much disappointment, that this series has had a slow
downward decline and now fails to hold even my slightest
attention. My favorite show has now become one that I would
not even put on my TV as background noise while I do
something more interesting.
Most of our favorites have returned this season, such as
Peter Petrelli and Clair Bennett, but they have brought in a
few new characters to "enhance" the show. The problem? Most
of these characters are just fluff, totally unnecessary to
the plot of the series, and I use the term "Plot" very
loosely because if there is one, I had a hard time figuring
out what it was. The program has become more about thinking
up and showing off new character's cool new abilities, than
actually telling a story, and that has made them turn one of
my favorite shows into a confusing mess. They started the
third series in what seemed like one direction and it has
gone in at least 3 or four different directions since then.
It definitely lacks the excitement and fascination it once
held for me, now its just this mess of characters and micro
plots that don't quite fit together. The fourth season is
set to start at the end of this month, and I'm still trying
to decide whether it deserves even a chance at catching my
attention, especially considering all the really good shows
that have done their job and kept my attention, and of
course there is the new programming of shows set to begin,
that deserve a chance and look vastly more promising than
Heroes. Besides, do I really want to invest in a show that
looks like it may be canceled this season?
What the Heroes series lacks in content it makes up in
features. The Blu-ray is loaded with features and if you are
a fan of this show this is a much have. Each disk contains
U-control which gives the user the ability to have picture
and picture with just one click, access to cast and crew
video commentaries while you watch the episodes. The disk
also contains tons of deleted scenes, alternates stories,
and lots of other features including access to BD live
center with the chance to download an exclusive sneak peek
at season 4.
