BLU-RAY
REVIEW: Pushing Daisies Season Two

07/21/09

SYNOPSIS: Dig into a
delicious second helping of Pushing Daisies, the multiple
Emmy® Award-winning series that USA Today’s Robert Bianco
calls, “a wholly original, rich-hued delight.” In this
season, Papen County's Pie-Maker with a witching finger for
waking the dead and his alive-again love Chuck have more on
the menu than a Terrifying Bee-Man and a Deep Fried Chicken
Magnate. The secrets are served deep-dish when family
skeletons -- both literal and figurative -- loom over the
Pie Hole and its patrons. As jockey cum waitress Olive Snook
joins a nunnery to mend her broken heart, the Pie-Maker who
broke it hides Chuck from her Aunt Vivian and mother Lily,
who believe she's dead. Naturally, this results in
resurrecting Chuck's father, who actually was dead. Private
Investigator Emerson Cod has daddy issues of his own when
his baby-stealing baby-mama finds herself at the center of a
damned dam murder case. This wondrous, witty and moving
confection is as irresistible as the Pie-Maker's three-plum
pie.
OVERVIEW: On July
21,2009 Warner Home
Entertainment will be releasing on Blu-ray the second and
last season of the critical and popular acclaimed TV series
Pushing Daisies. The outstanding series will include all
second season 13 episodes, as well as four new featurettes
that will give fans an outstanding background on how the
series was created.
REVIEW: As I watched the
episodes in the second season I could not help to wondered :
Where did it go wrong? Why was it cancelled? The Second
season of pushing Daisies was as magical and entertaining as
the first one. The fairy tale about the relationship on
Chuck and Ned could not have gotten better. In this season
the story does nothing but to add more intensity and energy
to the story taking it the next level with its usual
delicate and elegant humor, dialogue and with charismatic
characters who made us fell in love with the series plus new
ones who would increase the fun.
The format of the series is kept as in its original, with
colorful and creative settings, intelligent dialogue and a
formidable cast that delivers in each scene. The writers did
an outstanding job in keeping the story up to speed. each
episode gives some meaning to the overall story as they
managed to emerge us in a magical and joyful mystery, and
the new characters were as original and appropriate that
they make the audience feel, like they were already part of
the show. They also did an incredible job incorporating the
other “Little” characters. Each one of them gives the
audience a better understanding of the characters and their
personalities, and each one of the actors were exceptionally
well cast, specially the one for Olive and Emerson. Also,
they did an excellent job including secondary characters
from the first season that into these one without damaging
the flow of the story. The cast performed as well as in the
first season, and the guest appearances and new characters
were fitting and refreshing. Even the special effects were
quite impressive for a show of this caliber. The only think
I did not like about this season is that there is to much
singing, which I have never like in shows and movies,
however this is tolerable.
It is a shame that this show got cancelled. The new
characters, settings and the story in general was just
beginning to evolve when it was cut short, it had open so
many side stories like Ned‘s father’s, the watches, and
Emerson Cod‘s search for his daughter just to mention a few.
The DVD set includes the last three episodes which shows how
the director intended to finish the season. In my opinion,
it was great. It would have change the whole series, and
open numerous possibilities. There is no doubt in my mind
that the cast and crew will not suffer in finding a new
project as all of them have created in what I think a
masterpiece in TV series, which his unique style and humor.
It would be fun if it could make a comeback. I Recommend
this series to fans of the series and to people who enjoy
romantic comedies along with smart humor, great acting and
magical and charismatic characters.
