Bring It On: Friday August 25, 2000

Torrance Shipman (Kirsten Dunst) is a typical all-American high school girl. Since being been named captain of her school's championship-winning cheerleading squad, the San Diego Toros, she's on top of the world. She's determined that nothing -- not even her homework, her nagging parents or her perfect college boyfriend -- get in the way of leading her squad to its sixth consecutive national title.
But the Toro's have some stiff competition this time out from the Clovers, an inner-city, hip-hop squad from Los Angeles. When Torrance learns that her predecessor has been stealing cheer routines for years from the rival squad, she realizes that the Clovers and their captain Isis (Gabrielle Union) are looking to even the score -- and that the Toro's are in big trouble. Things get even worse when Torrance finds herself falling for Cliff (Jesse Bradford), an outsider from school with whom she normally would never associate, and with the national championships only a few weeks away, the pressure is on.   -- © 2000 Universal Pictures

 The People's Review of Bring It On

score = 10
It's a pity the score tab couldn't go down any lower, or else I would've given this overly produced, diminishing, and brassy movie a 2! The movie was depleted, cloying, and definitely humorless. The film's idea of showing a cheerleader's life is stupefied, with as littile subtle as possible, resulting in a great deal of sickeningly artificial sentimentality. For me, the unpleasant mix of saccharine moralizing and salty gags is like eating bacon dipped in chocolate sauce. The dancing and routines were deadening and the music selection awe-inspiring! And as for the title, only said once throughout the whole movie, I know this isn't supposed to be cared for, but it was a highly dependable one-liner, that should have been used more over. If you are a person with no life and needs a bit of pazzazz to spice it up, because you can't be bothered making some friends or spending time with your family or doing anything that is even one bit useful, then this is the movie for you. For the most part, Bring It On is more likely to induce sleep and slumber than laughter or dancing.

This is definitely a case of don't judge a book by its cover. Although it looks like a ditzy cheerleading saga, it's not. The cheer sequences are fantastic, and the directors have tried really hard to add new variations on the usual plots. Plus Blaque's appearance is a definite plus :o) The music is also quite catchy. Anyone know the name of the 'Prepare for Total Domination' - aka 'spirit fingers' song? If you do, email me at karynw@mail.com   I've been dying to know.....thanks!

comments = Okay, yes, i know that this movie was made as complete cheese.  Yes, I know that it's a little shallow and some of the acting is rather UPN-ish.  BUT I LOVE THIS FREAKIN' MOVIE!!!  I've seen it like 6 times and I still can't get enough.  I had SO many cheeerleader friends in high school and this reminds me of them.  The banter is witty and the comedy is timed very well.  And I'm tired of seeing these teen movies where the high school kids are all deep and philosophical.  Their dialogue is totally out of the range of reality.  Bring It On brings the reality into a new and inventive teen flick. Watch it alone, watch it with a friend, but you owe it to yourself to take a trip back to high school with Bring It On.

comments = The music and cheer routines were great.  The story could use a little work, but all in all, a good movie.  If you are a cheerleader or a dancer, this movie is for you...

comments = I loved this movie, not many show the truth behind cheerleading, were not all over sexed bimbo's in short skirts! it really is a sport. thanks for making a light hearted movie with out all the misconception! and Eliza Dushku is great! I remember her as Faith in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, seeing her in this movie was kind of weird, so "out of characture" compared to what i was used to seeing her in, it made the movie that much funnier!

an excellent movie which is well worth seeing, this is in my opinion a "go see it again" kind of film simply because it was mad for people of my age group. It recieved low scores here because the opinions came from adults where as mine is coming from a 13 year old teenager.

"Bring it on" is a really good movie if you like dance and cheerleaders. The history is like another one... no big deal ! But soundtrack and dances were really cool. GO SEE IT for the dances, not for the text !

Being a head cheerleader, I thought this movie was great! A must see! Kirsten Dunst was AMAZING and I was blown away by the stunting, dancing, and cheering! My cheer squad and I went and we were laughing the whole time! It's our new goal to go to Nationals and we plan to watch Bring It On all the way there! My new nickname is "Torrance"! Thanks SO much to the people who made this movie for giving my squad and I hope for our cheering future! CHEERING IS THE LIFE! Lotz of luv, "Torrance"/Amber

I am a cheerleader and this was the best movie i have seen in a long time! Not only was the choreography AMAZING, but the script was well written and there was not a scene that wasn't hilarious in some way. I would take out a lot of the romance, not every movie has to have it. Other than that I loved it! Go Toros!

Cute, clean.  Bring It On proves that you can entertain without sex, drugs and violence.  The plot was simple and straightforward, the characters were typical teens and the outcome satisfying.  Actually, I would rate it a 65 but the auto-scorer wants round numbers.  You should see it at a Matinee, but I try to see EVERYTHING at a matinee.  The cheerleading competition routines were excellent.  Go See.

This movie was so funny. Me and my friend were laughing our heads off most of the time.  It's not really like my school, but most teen movies don't really relate to real high schools and stuff.  But it was mainly funny and alittle over the top.

 I haven't laughed at movies alot like I did this one...I shouldn't say laughed at I mean I laughed through it because it was so funny.  It had the right amount of romance, fun, friendships, laughter and coolness.  This movie is The Bomb - it didn't bomb out.
