Zoe Cassavetes fell short in her attempt of creating a
different kind of romantic comedy. In her writer and
directorial debut, Zoe tells the story of Nora (Parker Posey)
a single woman in her 30s and her desperate search for true
love. She jumps from relation to relation thinking this is
the one going through heartache and disappointment.
Unexpectedly she meets a Frenchman, Julien (Melvil Poupaud),
whom she spends the weekend with and falls in love with him
not knowing that he would leave and once again she is left
heart broken.
The film drags specially towards the middle, however
Parket Posey's outstanding performance keeps the film afloat,
giving the audience a reason to keep watching. The picture
gets a little interesting when Nora and her friend Audrey (Drea
De Matteo) find a "weird way" to travel to France. At this
point the audience is taken into a dead end street when the
so called packages they brought to Paris turn out to be
nothing but that packages. This film is more dramatic than
your average romantic comedy unfolding into a predictable
ending.
