The Film Arcade announced today that DON’T THINK TWICE, one of the most buzzed-about indie films of the year, will begin its theatrical run in New York starting July 22nd, followed by a nationwide rollout. The Film Arcade is partnering with writer-director-star Mike Birbiglia and producer Ira Glass on an aggressive theatrical release.
At the film’s sold out world premiere at South by Southwest, Birbiglia was asked when other people can see the movie. He replied: “I can’t tell you, but I can tell you that I love this film and I will be hand delivering this film across the country to make sure everyone can see it.”
True to his word, Birbiglia will hit the road in June on a pre-release bus tour to 20 cities across the country in the lead-up to the film’s release. The “Improv Across America” bus tour will include free workshops with select improv comedy theaters including iO Chicago, Planet Ant in Detroit, and many others. The tour will also feature pop-up screenings of the film and appearances by Birbiglia, the cast and other special guests. Liz Allen, a nationally respected improv guru who coached the DON’T THINK TWICE cast in rehearsal for the film, will be teaching improv on the tour.
DON’T THINK TWICE features a who’s who of comedy actors including Keegan-Michael Key (“Key and Peele”, KEANU), Gillian Jacobs (“Community,” Netflix’s “Love”), Birbiglia (SLEEPWALK WITH ME, TRAINWRECK, “Orange is the New Black”), Kate Micucci (“Garfunkel and Oates”), Tami Sagher (writer/producer on HBO’s “Girls,” writer on “Inside Amy Schumer”) and Chris Gethard (“The Chris Gethard Show,” “Broad City”). It received some of the best reviews of the 2106 SXSW and Tribeca Film Festivals. Leonard Maltin called the film “A funny, moving and compassionate comedy” while Michael Phillips from the Chicago Tribune praised it as “Genuinely sharp, funny and bracingly honest.”
Produced by Birbiglia and Glass, along with Cold Iron Pictures’ Miranda Bailey and Amanda Marshall, and executive produced by The Film Arcade’s Jason Beck and Andy Bohn, DON’T THINK TWICE centers on a popular New York City improv troupe. When one of their cast members gets a big break, the rest of the group – all best friends – start to realize not everyone is going to make it after all.
