REVIEW: 17 AGAIN
08/10/09
SYNOPSIS: If you somehow had the chance, would you do your life over? Thirtysomething Mike O?Donnell would. Then one mysteriously magical moment, Mike gets his chance. He?s suddenly back at Hayden High where he?s the star of the basketball team, a total hottie, and a classmate to his own teenage kids?which gives Mike a chance to go from not-so-good dad to really cool friend. Zac Efron (Hairspray, the High School Musical movies) and Matthew Perry (Friends) are 17 Again and fabulously funny as the younger and older Mike in a good-time time-warp comedy that proves the best year of your life is the one you?re living right now.
REVIEW : I wasn’t
expecting much from 17 Again; a movie with an over used
formula. However, I was pleasantly surprise by how much I
laughed and by Zac Efron’s performance. I was really
surprise by Zac who handles his role here very well. Some of
you might by asking, “Hey Brad are you saying that Zac Efron
is the man.” Well no. Not yet anyway, but one day he just
might be.
The premise of the movie is simple: Mike O'Donnell (Matthew
Perry) is in his thirties and doesn’t like his life. He is
about to get a divorced from the girl he gave up his dreams
for Scarlett O'Donnell (Leslie Mann). He wishes that he
could go back and redo his life again. One day Mike
O'Donnell gets his wish and becomes a 17 year old who looks
a lot like Zac Efron. The cool thing here is that Mike
doesn’t go back in time, instead he remains in his current
time period.
The best thing about this movie is Thomas Lennon who plays
Ned Gold, Mike O'Donnell’s best friend. If you’ve seen Reno
911 you already know who Thomas Lennon is and are probably
familiar with his antics. Well Thomas give a great comedic
performance here. Zac Efron is also able to hold his own
here and gives a pretty decent performance. A lot better
than I expected. The writer also deserves a lot of the
credit here for crafting a fun movie from a stale story
line.
Overall 17 Again is a fairly entertaining movie that is at
least worth a rental.
