REVIEW: 28 WEEKS LATER

10/06/07

Normally movie franchises are
born after the success of their first film. In most of the
cases the sequel to those films are just money driven films.
After the surprising success of Danny Boyle's “28 Days
Later”, four years later Danny saw the opportunity of
creating a sequel to that satisfied the fan base created by
the original film. The result was a remarkable film that not
only is better than the original film, but sets strong
grounds for a long lasting franchise.
"28 Weeks Later" starts
six months after the deadly virus had destroyed the Britain
Mainland. The infected have died of starvation and the US
army have taken control of the security of the country.
With the notion that the fight against the virus has been
won, the island is ready for reconstruction and
repopulation. As many families make the return to the
main city, a special family is reunited without knowing that
one of them holds the a secret that will put the island back
in danger.
Sufficient credit has to be
given to Danny Boyle in this film. The decision of adding new
blood and fresh ideas to his creation in the name of Spanish
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was right on the money. After his
debut in the international and critically acclaim film "Intacto",
Fernando added to the film a new perspective, taking the
film to a franchise level.
The screenplay this time
around was not as intriguing as the original film, giving
some room for prediction in between scenes. However, it was
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's direction in those scenes that
prevented the film from falling making those scenes fresh
and different. One of the scenes that comes to mind, is the
dark scene in the subway. Also the presentation of the
desolate streets of London and the Wembley stadium scenes
were very so impressive to the point that they stay embedded
in the audience's memory.

If you loved the 28 days
later you'll love this too! this was
great! i thought it completely lived up
to the expectations that were previously
set from 28 days later, it had the same
gore and gruesome scenes that were in
the 1st one, the plot was great, there
were unexpected events. My only issue
was with some of the acting, couldve
been a little better, but it wasnt bad
enough to take away from the brilliance
of this movie! a must see! |
