REVIEW: AWAKE

Sometimes a highly
entertaining film doesn't get the attention that it deserves
and it is hard to understand why. Actually, there is major
reason, marketing . That is the case with the
movie "Awake" . A film directed and written by newcomer Joby
Harold starring Hayden Christensen, Jessica Alba and
Terrence Howard. It was released on December 2, 2007 and
like many movie goers I ignored it.
Luckily "Awake" will be
released on DVD on March 4 for everyone's enjoyment, no
children please . After watching the film it was easy to
understand why this movie was probably a hard film to
market, the less you know, the more mysterious and
captivating. This was the key to enjoying this film.
The only thing that I knew about it was that the film was
about the anesthetic awareness phenomenon, in which surgery
patients are completely paralyzed but conscious of
everything that is going on during surgery.
Joby Harold managed to
create a story full of chills and intrigue that completely
puts audiences in the path of twist and thrills. Since it
wouldn't be fair for future audiences to know much about the
plot, let me just mention without messing up the story that
there is a very well elaborated scene. When Clay
(Hayden Christensen) is going through anesthetic
awareness, the scene is put in a way that is completely
creepy and scary. Totally unforgettable for this
genre.
Overall the film is totally
recommended for fans of this genre with the disclaimer of
not getting into too much detail on what is about. Get ready
for the unpredictable.
