REVIEW: BEE MOVIE
2 DISC SPECIAL
EDITION

Jerry
Seinfeld has been a symbol of comedy for the past 15 years.
Since the release of the children's book "Halloween ",
it
seems like Jerry has been trying to venture into the
creation of a family oriented comedy. The result was "Bee
Movie", a film that is not enough entertainment for young
kids and is not not enough funny for adults.
"Bee Movie" follows the story of Barry B. Benson (Jerry
Seinfeld) that after his graduation is reluctant to follow
his destiny of becoming a worker inside Hive City making
honey. As soon as he sees the opportunity to go out of Hive
City, Barry is amazed by all the things that he found
outside. In the process of exploring outside he will have
the opportunity to meet a
beautiful florist called Vanessa (Renée Zellweger). Things
get a little complicate for Barry when he decides to sue the
humans for the illegal consumption of honey.
The beginning of the film
is quiet interesting and fascinating. The way bee hive world
was presented provided a nice touch of imagination by Jerry
and his team. The way everything in the hive world was
related to a real world was original and cute specially for
little kids. Unfortunately for adults there are no big
laughs that can be recalled from those first scenes.
As soon as Barry (Jerry Seinfield) gets out of the bee hive
and he starts interacting with the humans, the film shows a
lot of potential and the feeling of watching a new “Sherk”
or a new “Toy Story” is sensed in the air. However that
feeling disappears immediately after Barry decides to sue
the humans for the use of the honey. The idea of a little
insect suing the humans sound really funny, the problem is
that the way it is played in the film, becomes a little too
much of a plot for little kids and nothing exciting for
adults. From that point on the film takes u turn deep way
South.
The movie probably would have been better, if Barry have had
a funny sidekick, similar to what Donkey was for "Shrek" and
what Buzz Lightyear was for Woody in "Toy Story". Ironically
the movie had a character that would have added that missing
element to the film but was not wisely utilized. This
character is Mooseblood the mosquito voice by Chris
Rock that in the couple of scenes that he appear gave the
film some fresh adult comedy.
Overall the film is a nice
attempt by Jerry Seinfeld into his venture in the world of
computer animation films. Most likely many of his fans will
be disappointed.
