DVD REVIEW:
BLADE THE SERIES

02/11/08

Blade is one of the most
underestimated superheroes in the Marvel Universe I ever
seen. His sporadic appearances in different comic books and
his first color-comic series publication in 1994 did not
stop the vampire hunter to score big in the large screen and
box office around the world with his three movies. Actually,
I think this superhero opened many doors in the film
industry for upcoming superhero’s franchises. In 2006, the Daywalker make his day view in the small screen in Spike TV,
breaking records in rating as the most watched original
series premiere for the network ‘s history. The series kept
his numbers through all season, but strangely, it did not
continue. The series was entertaining and exciting, and
although some irrelevant mistakes relating the story to the
previous films were made, it did not disappoint at all.
Blade the series is original, sexy, captivating, smart, and
a most have for fans of the character and superheroes in
general.
The series takes place after the third movie Blade: Trinity
ended, apparently the Daystar did not killed all the
vampires, now they are more organized than ever. Blade it is
now in Detroit, hunting the major house, The house of Cthon,
and one of his leader Marcus Van Sciver. On the other hand,
Krista Starr, a veteran from Iraq, returns home and finds
out that her twin brother has been killed. She tries to
uncovered the cause for this and finds out that her brother
was killed by vampires. While trying to avenge her brother
she meets Blade and partners with him, however, Krista gets
bitten by Sciver and turned into what she hates the most,
now she most make a choice: to live in the Darkness and
enjoy all the pleasure that life has, or served as spy for
blade and help him destroy the one responsible for her
brother’s death, her decision can go either way.
During the process of the series, the audience gets involved
in Krista’s life as she either confronts Blade or Van Sciver,
and as we learned more about Blade’s past, also the story
keeps the audience interested by developing exciting sub
stories, in each one showing peculiar and original
characters, that let the audience asking for more. The
characters are well develop and portrayed. Kirk “Sticky”
Jones does great job filling Wesley Snipes Pants, although
he is not as talented as Mr Snipes, he adds a more Street
look to the character without ruin the previous image of the
character. Nail Jackson also performed well as VanSciver,
but the best villain performance in the series is done by
Jessica Gower. In her character Chase, she shows us all her
talents while performing this sexy, charming, but dangerous,
malicious, and deadly vampire. For the major villains the
audience feel sympathy or is enchanted by their charmed by
them and sometimes do not want them to die. Visually. the
series is good, the audience will be taken to Germany,
Paris, and different States, the weapons are well design,
the make up is excellent, and the fights are well
choreograph with remarkable special effects.
Blade the Series keeps leaving the name of this Superhero on
the top. He might not be as popular as many others heroes
but he is as though and aggressive as any and has managed to
be as successful as few of them. For enemies like Vampires,
that have been played out by many movies and TV shows and
are not likable by many people, Blade shines giving a
remarkable series worth for any collector. I recommend this
series not only for superheroes fans, since it is a
combination of fantasy, action, and mafia. Blade is as
original as the Sopranos, with the advantage that the end of
Blade is much better.
