REVIEW: BOONDOCKS
Season 2

06/09/08

Sony Pictures
present another season of comedy, The Boondocks, The
complete second season for you to add to your collection.
The three-disc DVD includes 13 episodes plus 2 bonus
episodes that are uncut and uncensored. The formula that
make the show a success is back and with the same results.
Each episode is full of critics, stereotypes, satire, and
laughs. The family is back with many new episodes for you to
watch and enjoy. The second season will be available on June
10 2008.
This series as its
comic strip involves themes affecting our culture, specially
criticizing the Hip Hop culture and different cultural
phenomenon. Well. this season is no different, and it does
it even more forward than the first one. This time
celebrities like 50 Cent, Monique, Snoop Dogg, Usher,
Ghostface, and Little Wayne are ridicule to the maximum. The
comparison and depictions of their attributes are just
hilarious, it seems that Mr. McGruder did his homework
depicting each character and situation. This season the
producers tried to focus more in ordinary events that affect
people like internet dating, media influence, and
stereotypical behaviors than in political or self awareness
issues, you could say that this season is more about heavily
media influenced Riley, than his intellectual brother Huey.
Nonetheless, the interaction between these two brothers is
what makes the show a success. In this season old faces like
self hating Uncle Ruckus, psychopath Ed Wuncler III and his
friend Gim Rommey, Colonel Stinkmeaner and hilarious A Pimp
Name Slickback make their appearances to spice up the show.
Another great thing from this series makes fun of some
popular movies like Austin Powers, Kill Bill, and the
exorcist while adding its own material. The must
controversial episodes that resemble the strip are The
Hunger Strike and the Uncle Ruckus Reality Show, were there
are strong criticism to cable network BET.
My favorites
episodes in descending order were: 1 The Hunger Strike,
2.Uncle Rockus reality show, 3. Stinkmeaner strikes back,
and 4. … or die trying.
Season two might not be more
controversial than season one, but at least it matches it in
fun. Each episode will make you laugh as much as any from
the first season. Plus the animation is better than in the
second one, you could really see the influence of Japanese
animation in every episode. The sound is great; it puts the
audience just in the mood, and the songs are original and
funny. The character voices are appealing Regina Kings and
John Witherspoon do a magnificent job interpreting the main
characters. The DVD set is well designed and will look great
next to the first season one. The only bad opinion about
this set are the language, in my opinion it uses to much
explicit language, that could be offensive to many people,
and that the DVDs do not come with a subtitle option.
Anything else the Boondocks is a most have for a fan of the
series, and a must see to people who likes comedies like
Friday. with an open sense of humor they keep being smart,
interesting, somehow motivating, and specially very funny.
Once you play the first episode you would not want to stop
until you finish all the set.
