REVIEW: BRIDE WARS

04/20/09

OVERVIEW:
Two best friends become bitter
rivals when their weddings are scheduled on the same day,
place and time in the hilarious romantic comedy BRIDE WARS,
walking down the aisle on Blu-ray Disc (BD) and DVD April 28
from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Oscarâ
nominees Kate Hudson* (Fool’s Gold) and Anne Hathaway** (The
Devil Wears Prada), the former in her first role as
Producer, star as Liv and Emma, lifelong friends who have
always done everything together, including planning all the
details of their dream weddings at the ultimate bridal
destination – The Plaza Hotel. Newly engaged, both of their
plans come to a screeching halt when a clerical error sets
both weddings on the same date. With each expecting the
other to move the date and both brides refusing to change,
Liv and Emma’s childhood friendship is put to the ultimate
test as they find themselves in a no-holds barred
competition for the best wedding. Determined to sabotage the
other’s big day, these “Bridezillas” will stop at nothing to
live happily ever after… no matter what gets in their way.
SYNOPSIS: Best
friends Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Liv (Kate Hudson) have
always dreamed of being married at the Plaza Hotel in the
month of June. Planning on wedding their respective
husbands-to-be, everything seems to be going perfectly – the
dates are set, their dresses are beautiful and the maids of
honor – each other – are as joyful as can be. However, when
the pair of friends receives the bad news that their
weddings were planned for the same day, the pre-wedding
bliss is ruined. With neither willing to give up her dream
wedding, Liv and Emma declare themselves to be engaged in
the most heated and dangerous kind of war known to man: The
Bride Wars.
DVD: Bride Wars is presented in
a widescreen format with a 1.85:1 aspect ration. The
transfer looks clean, judging from the watermark screening
received it is very difficult to determine the real quality
of the video, however I wont doubt that the final product
will be just fine. The picture is
complemented with a 5.1 Dolby digital sound in
English, Spanish and French with Spanish, French and English subtitles.
Like it was expected the
special features in this DVD are very slim. It only contains
three deleted scenes, in which one is an alternate opening
to the film. These scenes don't add anything positive to
this film. The second and last special feature is "The
Perfect White Dress", in which one of the chief editor of
the magazine Vera Wang talk about the perfect white dress.
No behind the scenes no commentaries.
Overall this is a film that
is only recommend to Anne Hathaway's
and Kate Hudson's
fans, other than that don't even bother, wait until is
available on cable.
