SYNOPSIS: New York
City Ballet: Bringing Balanchine Back tells the story of New
York City Ballet’s historic visit to St. Petersburg , Russia
to perform at the famed Mariinsky Theater where ballet
legend and NYCB co-founder George Balanchine received his
training and began his career. One of the most famous
theaters in the world, this is where Tchaikovsky created The
Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty, and where other greats
of the ballet world such as Nureyev, Nijinsky and
Baryshnikov took their first ballet steps. The
eagerly-anticipated trip coincides with the world-wide
celebrations marking the centennial of Balanchine’s birth,
and takes place during St. Petersburg ’s annual White Nights
festival. Included is performance footage of several of
Balanchine’s most acclaimed works, along with a rare glimpse
behind-the-scenes for a number of backstage dramas.
REVIEW: Embark in an
exciting and historical journey to St Petersburg, Russia
with the New York city ballet, when narrator Kevin Kline
follows the footsteps of this world renown company in the
video "New York City
Ballet: Bringing Balanchine Back" . The legacy of George
Balanchine is at
its highest when the current company dancers gather in
Saratoga Springs, New York to rehearse under the guidance of
Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins in preparation for
performance on the very same stage Balanchine and other
stars danced, at the legendary Marrinsky Theatre.
In this dance lover's film, intimate backstage moments,
dramatic rehearsals, and the clash between two different
dance cultures are just some of the interesting and amusing
highlights of this film. There is
extraordinary music by the "Balanchine's Symphony in C,
Symphony in Three Movements, Western Symphony and Agon",
which continues to impress the audiences of the White Nights
festival. Also, the new dance style and modern choreography
true to Balanchine' style marks its debut in this foreign
country of ballet dance stars.
The stage is set, the lights are on and the performers are
ready. Are
you willing to embark in this journey, engage all your
senses and be
part of this historical event? Here is your chance! On
November 11 this
DVD, which promises to entertain and inform will be
released.
