Dirty Sexy Money
Season
One
09/14/08

Ever wonder what the other
half, the one with money, a lot of money, does. Well wonder
no longer, in ABC’s new series, Dirty Sex Money, the Darling
Family shows us, that money leads to some pretty dirty
places. The show starts with the Darling family lawyer,
Dutch George (Peter Straus), dying in an airplane accident.
The Darling‘s, attempt to lurk Nick George (Peter Krause),
Dutch’s son, who has always despised the Darling family for
stealing his dad. Tripp Darling (Donald Sutherland), the
Darling family’s head, offers Nick a hefty salary plus $10
million a year to use for charity which Nick is very
dedicated to. Soon Nick is seen running around taking care
of all of the family business including, keeping under rap
New York Attorney General Patrick Darling’s (William
Baldwin) relation with his transsexual girlfriend,
orchestrating a multiple million dollar birthday party for
the twins Jeremy Darling (Seth Gabel) and Juliet Darling (Samaire
Armstrong), staying way from ex-girlfriend Karen Darling
(Natalie Zea) and trying to get custody of Rev. Brain Glenn
Fitzgerald son with a girl he meet during a sermon and that
his wife only recently found out about. Add to this the fact
that Letitia Darling, Tripp’s wife, might have been cheating
for the last 40 years and that one of their children may not
be 100 percent Darling. Oh, and Nick has one more thing to
deal with, the fact that his father’s airplane may not have
crashed by accident and may have something to do with the
riches man in the world Simon Elder (Blair Underwood). All
the while Nick must maintain a heath relationship with his
wife Lisa George (Zoe McLellan) and daughter Kiki George
(Chloe Moretz)
Dirty Sexy Money features a spectacular cast. Peter Krause
performance is as good as the days he played Nate on Six
Feet Under. Donald Sutherland performance is regal. He does
here what he tried to do in the movie Fool‘s Gold, but here
it‘s ten times better because he doesn‘t have the badly done
British accent. The entire cast is great and they all fit
the part very well. Brain, however, is phenomenal as the
minister. I’ve never seen or heard of him, but he is an
actor capable of great range.
The one problem I found with the series is that the plots
don’t have the hook that drags you to the edge of addiction.
Lets face it, the hook is the major life blood of any of
these television series. Without the hook, they are dead.
How else are they going to get us addicted and make us want
to watch week after week. The only hooks we are offer
revolves around finding who killed Nick’s dad and figuring
out what Simon Elder and Tripp Darling are up too. Not to
say these are bad hooks, but they are left in the back
burner in a lot of episodes. Due to the writer strike, the
series only had about ten episodes and didn’t prepare an
episode to close out the series. This show does have a lot
of potential and I look forward to seeing what they do with
season two.
