It is nice to see a TV
child actor make a big splash in Hollywood, that is the case
of Shia LaBeouf. Known for his Disney TV series "Even
Stevens", LaBeouf is starting to make big noise in
Hollywood. Since his outstanding performance in the indie
film "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints", this
young actor was waiting for his breakout role. A role that would show the
world that the child actor has grown up and is ready for
bigger roles. "Disturbia" is just the beginning for him.
After the tragically death of
his father, seventeen year old Kale Brecht (Shia Labeouf)
have a lot trouble assimilating the incident. A year later
and still in disbelieve for his father's death, Kale is put
under three months of house arrest for hitting his Spanish
teacher. A few days later, tired of being stranded at home
and running out of ideas on how to keep him self busy. Kale
starts to spy on the neighbors. Soon he starts suspecting
that his neighbor Mr. Turner (David Morse) is a serial
killer. Together with the help of his best friend
Ronnie (Aaron Yoo) and his new neighbor Ashley (Sarah Roemer)
Kale will try to uncover the true identity of the believed
to be serial killer Mr. Turner.
There are two reasons that
set this film above the regular teenage thrillers in recent
years. For starters Christopher Landon and Carl Ellsworth
delivered a brisk screenplay, that doesn't make use of the
old supernatural story seen in most films of this genre.
Another reason was the cast
selection by DJ Caruso. He hit a home run by selecting Shia LeBouf
for the leading role. Shia delivered a performance to
remember, making use of his natural ability to perform
this characters in a realistic manner.
New comer Sarah Roemer and Aaron Yoo did an excellent job
supporting the leading character.
"Disturbia" will not be
remembered by the Hitchcock fans, who will try to compare
this movie to the "Rear Window", but it will be remember by
the new generation of movie goers that were waiting for an
exciting and intelligent thrill ride.
