DUCKTALES (Volume
3)

11/12/07

Walt Disney’s Ducktales has
been one of the most successful TV shows produced by Walt
Disney. It was first aired in 1987 and it lasted over 100
episodes, but its impact lasted more than a decade. I
remembered it was still aired in 2004 , by one of the Disney
networks. Any person who had his childhood at the beginning
of the 90s tells you that he or she does not know what
Ducktails is, they are lying to you. It also was the first
Disney syndicated cartoon, and it still being played
overseas. This series open the doors to many other cartoon
programs such as Darwin Duck, Chip and Dale rescue rangers,
and Ducktales. what makes this show great was that unlike any
other Disney’s cartoons which are sequels or based on one of
its movies. Ducktales is different. It is based on one of
the most classical and more charismatic characters they have
: Scrooge McDuck and its nephews Louie, Dewey and Huey.
Ducktales make its reappearance in DVD format on 2005 with
the first volume and in 2006 with his second , now, after a
years waiting Disney is releasing its third volume November
13 2007, and it is as fun and enjoyable as when it was
aired.
Scrooge Mc Duck is the richest duck in the world. He is a
successful businessman that does not misses any chance to
increase his fortune. He will see opportunity where nobody
else see it. He seems to be stingy, but he understands that
the real wealth is in the people who surrounds him like his
nephews and friends, that’s why he does everything in his
power to keep these bonds; even risking his fortune. He is
also an adventurer and with help of his friend he goes into
the craziest and extraordinary events ending in the increase
of his money or preventing the stealing of this one by his
numerous enemies like Magical Despell, the Beagle Boys and
Flintheart Glomgold.
Volume three is packed with 24 enjoyable episodes. Although,
most of the episodes follow pretty the same plot there is
always something special that makes it unique and
entertaining. Sometimes is the setting, from exotic islands,
the ancient china, the wild west, the deeps of the sea or
the infinite space. Also some episodes in this volume are
adaptation of some literary masterpieces like Alexandre
Duma’s the Man in the Iron Mask (Duck in the iron Mask),
Edgars Rice Borrought’s Tarzan of the Apes (Jungle Duck),
and Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (Dr
jeckyll and Mr McDuck). Which are represented in an pleasant
way.
This volume will answer many questions, if you have any,
about some of the characters of the series. It will tell you
how Mr. McDuck make its fortune, how he got to know his
brave, loyal but not that smart friend and pilot Launchpad
McQuack. It will have special appearences by Glandston
Gander, Scrooges lucky nephew, Bad Pete, the phantom Blot
and everybody favorite duck Donald Duck. These volume will
also introduce new characters to the series like Frenton
Crackshell, the Gizmo Duck , and Bubba the caveman duck.
The DVD is well presented in its case and the quality of the
image and sound is digitally mastered which makes it really
good to watch. The only thing where it looses its value is
in special features since it does not have any.
The best thing about Ducktales Vol III is that you would not
need to owned or have the previous ones, since its episodes
are independent to each other, and those episodes that have
continuations will end before the volume is over. Ducktales’
main character is the richest duck in the world, nonetheless
this series is not about money. It is about family, love,
respect, friendship, loyalty, hard work, endurance, honesty,
compassion, and ingenuity. It is though for a series like
Ducktales to compete with the modern animated series, since
they are based on violence and gore appealing to youngster
nowadays. Nonetheless, Mr, McDuck and its gang have an
advantage that modern series lack, he is appealing to
everybody. Ducktales’s Volume 3 is about 9 hours of pure fun
and laughs for young and adults and it is as entertaining as
its first appearance in the 90s.
