REVIEW: Dynamite Warrior
07/17/07

Have a free night with
nothing better to do? Then why not take a silly-wacky ride
with the movie Dynamite Warrior. While it won’t elevate you to a higher
state of mind, or arouse any serious conversation, you will
undeniable have fun.
Jone Bang Fai (The Dynamite Warrior) as a child witnesses
the murder of his parents. He vows to avenge their death and
leaves the monastery where he is studying to be a monk. He
finds work at a firework factory, where he learns how to
make rockets. Using his mastery of fireworks and his
fighting skills, he sets out to find his parents’ killer.
The only things he knows about the killer are that he has an
odd looking tattoo on his chest and is a cattle rustler.
To find the killer, Jone Bang Fai begins fighting cattle
rustlers, and consequently becomes a hero to the village
farmers by returning their stolen cattle. However, Jone Bang
Fai’s affairs interfere with Lord Wang’s conspiracy to rid
the city of cattle in order to sell his tractors. When he
finally finds his parents’ killer, it turns out that the
killer has mystic powers and can only be weaken by using the
menstrual blood of a virgin with a zodiac sign stronger than
his. Yeah that’s right! Now, Jone Bang Fai has to find a
virgin to defeat the mystic killer, consult the zodiac, deal
with Lord Wang and all the while maintain a health supply of
dynamite. Wow!
Dynamite warrior has a silly premise, but it’s a fun movie
to watch. When I first started watching it, I really wasn’t
that in to it, but I gave it a chance and about twenty
minutes into the movie I was hooked. The action is nicely
choreography, the cinematography is beautifully shot. The
movie has a big wacky plot, but the director does a good job
keeping the preposterous grounded with the performances of
his actors. They know it’s a silly movie and they have fun
with it. Although, the performance of Lord Wang is at times
startling. In some scenes he looks like an actor straight
out of acting school and in other scenes he looks like a
gifted actor capturing the true nuttiness of the movie. The
only other thing that is truly astonishing is that this
movie is probably a lot better than some of the Hollywood
blockbusters.
