REVIEW: Factory Girl
07/15/07

It's been a while since the
film industry doesn't release a movie set in the 1960's that
takes you back in time. Such is the case of Factory Girl,
the story of Edie Sedgwick played by Sierra Miller and how
she became Andy Warhol (Guy Pearce) divine muse, making her
New York's dazzling Superstar.
It was her intrinsic personality, beauty and ambition what
triggered Andy to bring Edie into The Factory, Warhol's
downtown loft. At the factory, the artistic elite society of
the time collided to produce underground cinema and have
fabulous parties. Edie becomes the "It Girl" of the big
apple but with the world at her feet, she still soars from
childhood traumas and lack of love from her dysfunctional
family. This soon leads her to experience with drugs,
alcohol until her tragic death at the age of 28.
Factory Girl takes much of its credit for the historical
research that took place before and during the making of
this film. Bringing to the big screen the intimate, sensual
and alluring true story of Edie Sedgwick was just part of
this big production. Taking into account the modisms of the
time, the fashionable non stop smoking, the pop counter
culture of the artistic society was an outstanding piece of
work done by Emmy® Award winning* director George
Hickenlooper. The collage of actual
archival tapes, still photos, and scenes from Warhol's
movies makes this film more real. Sexually revealing and
incredibly entertaining this story couldn't have been told
better.
