REVIEW: FIGHTING

08/23/09

OVERVIEW: It’s not
about who you’re fighting, but what you’re fighting for.
Writer and director Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing
Your Saints) brings the action in this gritty story of small
town boy who becomes a street fighting star in New York City
’s underground circuit. The film that Pete Hammond (Hollywood.com)
calls “a total knockout” is now available to own with two
versions on one disc, including the theatrical version plus
the unrated cut with even more ferocious fighting! Starring
Channing Tatum (Public Enemies, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,
Step Up), Academy Award® nominee Terrence Howard (Iron Man,
Crash, Hustle & Flow), Zulay Henao ( S. Darko) and Luis
Guzman (War).
SYNOPSIS: Small-town
boy Shawn MacArthur (Channing Tatum) knows firsthand that
every day in New York City is a struggle to survive. So when
scam artist Harvey Boarden (Terrence Howard) gives him a
chance to be something more in the brutal underground world
of bare-knuckle street-fighting, Shawn decides that he has
something worth fighting for and puts everything on the line
to win. Every knockout brings him closer to the life he’s
always wanted, but also traps him in a dangerous web he
can’t escape.
DVD: The DVD is
presented in widescreen with a 1.85:1 aspect ration preserving the
theatrical presentation of the film. The picture is
complemented with a 5.1 Dolby Digital audio tracks
in English , Spanish and Francais with English,
Spanish and Francais substitles.
In terms of special
features the DVD doesn't include much only a few deleted
scenes nothing more. It also includes the
theatrical and the unrated versions of the movie.
The unrated version is 3 minutes longer that the
theatrical version. I still don't understand
what is the purpose of including both versions, since it
is very difficult to identify what is in the unrated
version that is not in the rated.
Overall Fighting just
serve one purpose and one purpose only modest
entertainment. This is one of those that you rent
whenever is nothing better to rent.
