REVIEW: FLASHDANCE
(SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION)
09/14/07

The 70's musical films
like Grease and Saturday Night Fever took the world by
storm, but in the 80's the turn was for Flashdance. In the
decade of the music revolution, with an inspirational story
and an outstanding soundtrack this movie became popular in
an instant. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson, the
film made excellent use of music videos type scenes to tell
the story, making this film a pop culture sensation.
Flashdance went on to win an Academy Award® for best original
song with "What A Feeling" and nominations for best
cinematography and best editing.
Flashdance is the story of
Alex Owens (Jennifer Beals) an 18 old girl, with the
aspiration of becoming a professional dancer by getting an admission in
the Pittsburgh Conservatory of Dance. In order to make a
living Alex works during the day as a welder and at night as
an exotic dancer. Trying to reach her dream Alex embarks
in the most inspirational journey that will put to the test
her convictions.
Even though the film was
inspired by the real life story of Maureen Marder (who
worked as a welder during the day and an exotic dancer at
night) it is the way the music was attached to the story and
the beautiful cinematography is what makes this film
unique and a real classic.
This special collector's
edition DVD, includes five excellent documentaries containing
everything related to the film. From the history of the
film, how the film came to life, to the music selection to
the release comments from producers, directors and cast.
As an extra feature this special edition contains a music CD
with six songs from the movie including the award winning
song "What A feeling" and nominated song "Maniac".

breaking movie, but of a timeless treasure that will
