REVIEW: FRAGMENTS

08/02/09

OVERVIEW:
Sony Pictures Home
Entertainment will release Fragments on DVD on August 4,
2009. This film features an incredible ensemble of talented
actors including Kate Beckinsale (Underworld, Pearl Harbor),
Dakota Fanning (Coraline, Push), Guy Pearce (Memento, L.A.
Confidential), Jeanne Tripplehorn (“Grey Gardens,” “Big
Love”) and Academy Award® winners Forest Whitaker (Best
Actor, The Last King of Scotland, 2006) and Jennifer Hudson
(Best Supporting Actress, Dreamgirls, 2006). Based on the
critically acclaimed novel “Winged Creatures” by Roy
Freirich, the film was honored as an Official Selection of
the 2008 Los Angeles Film Festival.
SYNOPSIS: One moment
can change a lifetime. Shots ring out and the early morning
tranquility of a diner shatters. As survivors pick up the
pieces they find themselves transforming in the most
unexpected ways as they cope with the aftermath. One brief
moment and their lives are changed forever.
DVD: Fragments is presented in
a widescreen format with a 1.85:1 aspect ration,
preserving its original theatrical released format. The
transfer looks clean without color saturation. The picture is
complemented with an English and French 5.1 Dolby digital sound with Spanish and French subtitles.
In terms of special
features the DVD doesn't include much. It only includes a
feature commentary by Director Rowan Woods.
Overall Fragments manage to
deliver enough intrigue and drama that kept the film
interesting for most of the time. The approach taken by
Director Rowan Woods of flash
back of the diner's shooting was what kept the movie
interesting. Also his ability to manage the parallel live of
five different as they cope with tragic event was also
impressive. The main problem for me was the ending. The end
of the film doesn't match the absorption developed film and
the exceptional cast performance.
